Friday Laundry List
1. Blogger has been a bit funky lately. I notice that I’ve missed some of your blog posts, as they didn’t show up in my feed. I’ll try to catch up a bit over the weekend.
2. I’ve also been having trouble commenting on some Blogger and non-Blogger blogs. I suspect it’s a browser issue, as I only seem to have this issue on Windows (cough*work*cough) browsers.
3. I’ll have something New and Very Excitingâ„¢ to share with you next week.
4. My new favorite nail polish (toes only right now, though it’s so pretty I’m considering adding to my next manicure): Essie Brownie Points. It’s a perfect color for Fall.
5. I picked the wrong month to try to give up carbs and alcohol.
6. I’m a bit behind on responding to all of your lovely comments, will catch up on those this weekend as well.

Give up carbs and alcohol? Life would not be worth living!
I did give up both for dietary purposes for about 8 months – oh boy I was miserable and hungry and gained weight.
Giggling away at number two!

It’s never the wrong time to give up alcohol and carbs. I did over a year ago and lost 26 lbs. Never felt better , never slept better. neer looked better. Doc is thrilled – weigh less than 10 years ago and Blood Pressure perfect again.
DO IT!
Thank you! for assuring me that Blogger hasn’t singled me out for problems: with following, being followed, and commenting. Can’t wait for Big News!
Second the love for Brownie Points! Giving up carbs and alcohol (entirely) takes too much fun out of life, for me. And my bp, all the tests that count, and sleep? Excellent.
Love your new Essie Brownie Points. The accessory of polish is always intriguing to me.
We get red screened at work if we try to log onto Facebook ! Our server monitors everything we do!
That’s why I love my new IPhone 🙂
Giving up carbs and alcohol sounds like a detox is on the way…I did that for 30 days and lost 8 pounds…I think the gym might have been an easier route though as it was hard to watch those around me enjoying what I was giving up!
Sending you mucho smooches and hopes for a wonderful weekend.
I’ve been doing a very successful try at Weight Watchers the past 4 1/2 months (lost 30 lb.!) I have not given up alcohol, but did cut down a bit, and drink mostly wine (too many points in margaritas!)
Following the program doesn’t require giving up carbs, but it guides you toward complex carbs, and definitely fewer carbs overall. I find that “giving up” anything is just too restrictive, and takes a lot of fun out of life! Learning to be judicious with some foods is a much better way of life, IMO.
Some years ago, I tried the South Beach Diet, no carbs at all for the first few weeks, and was utterly exhausted. No way I could maintain that, plus it made me CRAVE carbs. I would have killed for a bowl of Cheerios for breakfast.
I am so glad it is not just me! I have been struggling with Blogger taking forward to put the post together and there are so many I have not been able to comment on…it makes me feel better that I am not the only one!
have a great weekend!!
Hello:
Oh the trials and tribulations of Blogger and too much alcohol are sometimes too much to bear. Our solution is to switch off the machine and pour a gin and tonic!
Gained no weight in Italy, although I stuffed myself daily with carbs and alcohol. Came home, ate normally, and have gained – no carbs or alcohol for me either started today. Also wrong month, but oh well.
No carbs and alcohol is too harsh for me.
That’s a really lovely nail polish color. I see how it fits with your palette.
Looking forward to your news!
I tried to do the no-alcohol thing in August (after a too-much night at the end of July). Only lasted two days, I’m embarrassed to say. Realized that for me, moderation means avoiding such extremes as abstention. Drinking is moderation. What? You’re skeptical? Works for me. . .
But I’m sure you have much more willpower and good for you. Hope you manage to enjoy the weekend even sans vin. hugs!
Every year we do a month without alcohol (Feb, of course, the shortest month) and I must say it is most trying … I’ve never attempted to give up carbs, but I don’t love sweets or chocolate, and I don’t much like bread, so my carb sins are restricted to pasta/couscous/rice a few times a week. I do know that in February I sometimes lose weight; other times I don’t because I start raiding the pantry instead of having a glass of wine …
I can so relate to not getting things done. Glad you mentioned nail polish though! Been thinking about painting my nails, and seeing the new nail polish has me motivated!
I gave up alcohol for about 80 days – health related – and started drinking small amounts of wine – almost always red – here and there. It does wonders for your weight, sleep, skin, personality, confidence, etc. to forgo alcohol for a while. Carbs are a harder one for me to give up….I love pasta and bread too much. Sweets I don’t care about….but crusty French bread? Yes, please.
I tried to leave you a comment on your cognac post. It was kind of long too – when I tried to post it, poof! Gone. Hate that.
Great Essie color. Do you know that they sell Essie at Walgreens now?
Happy Weekend to you and yours. xo
Life w i t h o u t alcohol should be normal life. I support your goal.
Living without carbs is n o t n o r m a l. I won´t support that one.
Instead, decrease your snacks, increase the amount of fruit and vegetables and eat smaller portions of food.
@Bourbon&Pearls Yes, that’s part of the challenge. I do feel better when I *limit* both pretty substantially, so moderation will probably carry the day.
@Pam @ over50feeling40 It’s very frustrating and I feel bad when I can’t comment on some of my favorite blogs and get behind.
@Jane and Lance Hattatt That indeed sounds like the sane and civilized approach!
@ExecutiveKnitter My modified intention as of today is to keep both to a minimum, rather than eliminate both entirely. Glad to hear you’ve found a regime that works so well for you!
@Patti @ NotDeadYet Style Patti, yours is one of the blogs I’ve been having trouble commenting on. I think it’s something between Windows and the format. I do read you every day and it’s been a major point of frustration not to be able to comment. $*#@ blogger, @#%&* Windows!!!!!! 😉
@Duchesse Isn’t it a fabulous color though? I agree that trying to do anything quite so drastic is probably unworkable. Writing that was a bit of writer’s hyperbole on my part, but I have been letting bad habits get the better of me and feeling a bit bloated and lethargic, so need to get back on track.
@kathy peck Me too! I think all of the walking we did compensated. I just need to get out of bad habits and be more conscious mostly.
@The Style Crone Thank you! It’s a warm color that would look great on redheads…
@hostess of the humble bungalow Our work system does block some sites, usually for reasons of “inappropriate content” but usually not the social networking sites (some of our company entities have Facebook pages of their own). I’m committed to *restricting* rather than *eliminating* at this point. Just need to tweak and fine tune a bit, I think. Love the *idea* of a detox, but I’m never able to follow through with it.
@LPC Thank you, you too! Enjoy SB!
@Susan Tiner Too harsh for me too. I have to have some flexibility and something I can live with. Thanks, this polish color is very much in my palette, and I love how it looks on me.
@Jill Ann Sounds like it’s worked very well for you, congratulations! I’ve tried WW a couple of times, but always seem to be constantly hungry. It’s funny, the less I eat carbs, the less I crave them. I think everyone has to find a plan that works for their body and lifestyle. But you’re right, anything that’s too restrictive sets us up to fail.
@Tiffany Some friends of mine do something similar, and give up alcohol between the Super Bowl and Mardi Gras! I’m not much of a sweets eater either, except when there’s cake around. And then, it’s all about the butter cream frosting!
@materfamilias Glad it’s not just me. I’m finding these days that my body doesn’t tolerate wine or alcohol in any quantities anymore (interferes with sleep, mostly), and find that limiting to one glass per day 4-5 days per week (and nothing on the other days) is probably my version of moderation.
@Adrienne I did read about that on your blog. Good for you for figuring out what you needed to do and doing it! Really Good Bread is my undoing too.
@metscan I’ve never really given up carbs entirely, just try to limit sweets and starches. And yes, lots of vegetables, and some fruits.
@CandiRae A fresh “coat of paint” always improves the outlook, n’est-ce pas?
” 5. I picked the wrong month to try to give up carbs and alcohol.
” –it’s never the right month for that!
