Utility Jackets: Olive Alternatives

Several of you have mentioned that you love the idea of a utility jacket but just can’t wear olive green.  I’ve found a couple of options you may want to consider. Above, this one in cobalt blue is the same style of jacket I have in olive. It reminds me of the French workman’s jacket popularized by Bill Cunningham and Ines de la Fressange. (I’ll admit, I’m sorely tempted myself.) This runs a little small, recommend sizing up one size.

And this one in Bone is a very fresh alternative for Spring. (Very reasonably priced, too.)

Both these utility jackets are great. I bet they sell out today after your followers see them!

I’m happy for all of your recent features, it must be gratifying to be recognized by your peers. You do a wonderful job being both professional and personable. Yes, do seriously consider getting the blue utility jacket, I think it will turn into a neutral and pop that you didn’t expect ;).

I have a khaki version with a hood that rolls up and zips inside the collar. I like the tan/beige shade because it has a trench coat vibe and goes with everything, dressy or casual.

This sounds immensely useful, a hideaway hood–what brand is it?

      • March 16, 2018 / 6:34 am

Tenson is the brand. I bought it a good 20 years ago, but it looks brand new. It has been on several African safaris!

Fan mail: I’m a 66 year old painter, retired from other work. Love your style and appreciate the shop scouting you do. I have lots of interests – painting, travel, museums, volunteer gigs, hiking, reading…. but not shopping. So glad that you do! Both the scouting and your discussions are helpful to me. I own a lot of Eileen Fisher from working years, (and buy it sparingly now that money doesn’t flow in) so your taste is on point for me. Thanks for the service you provide, and the friendly enjoyable way you do it. Spares me from retreating to a thoroughly boring uniform!

Yes! I just took mine on vacation and wore it almost every day. I love it…

Congrats on all the well-deserved recognition, Sue! But is it just me and my limited tech skills or is there really no linking to the actual blog-sites on the Who What Wear post. Given how well the links work on the Shop Her Style (revenue-creating) photos, I would find that unfair and exploitative. Didn’t want to say so on that site for fear I was missing something, but perhaps other readers might notice as well and perhaps, if I’m right, those links could be added. . .

Thanks, Frances. I thought that too at first, but they do have a link in very small print, next to the Photo credit. 😉

Oh, okay, I’m mollified 😉 and glad I asked you first — although I do wish they could make that link more obvious. I mean, I’m not a techie, but I visit a lot of blogs, and I couldn’t easily see it. . .

Last week you were bored with your look! So now you know! YOU are not boring. So glad you received well deserved recognition! You have a great blog.

Thanks for the kind mentioning. I really appreciate it. These utility jackets are great picks. They are a wardrobe must-have, no matter what the personal style is. They are so versatile to style and a great alternative to a denim jacket. Before I forget, the Top of the World Style linkup party is back. Have a great weekend.

Just ordered the Everlane jacket, but in green (I’m pretty traditional). But love that blue! Might have to buy another…thank you for the heads up!

I got the J Crew utility jacket last year in the cobalt blue and I love it. Much more versatile than I would have expected.

I bought the Everlane Cropped City Anorak in charcoal for a weatherproof jacket now that we’re getting rain in NorCal.
