What I Love This Week: Cozy Knit Scarves, a Perfect Layering Tee, and a Netflix Comedy You Need to Watch

You know those weeks when everything seems to land at once—appointments, obligations, a to-do list that keeps growing? That’s been my week. But a few good finds have made it a lot more enjoyable: a scarf style I keep reaching for, a layering tee I’ve already reordered, shoes that made me happy the moment I put them on, and a Netflix series that’s had me actually laughing out loud. Let’s get into it.

The Knit Triangle Scarf: Small Scarf, Big Style

For those of you who have mentioned that you prefer smaller scarves, here’s a style you might want to try.

SCARF (SIMILAR) | SWEATER

I first started noticing this knit triangle scarf style early last year, and it’s since gained “trend traction.” The one I’m wearing above is from TBCO (this color is no longer available, but there are several others). These fuss-free scarves are easy to throw on and are comfortable to wear both indoors and out. I’ve shared more options at the bottom of the post.

My sizes: Sweater – S, Jeans – 28 Petite

It’s been another busy week. (All of my “every 6 month” appointments seem to hit at the same time.) So I’ve been opting for comfortable, no-brainer outfits. The cashmere fisherman sweater is from Quince, and I’m quite impressed with the quality.

The jeans are darker than they appear in this photo, very close to Spring’s Bright Navy. I really like this style, and hope they offer more washes in the future. The leopard loafers are from M.Gemi, and were kindly gifted from the team. I’ve had my eye on these, and they did not disappoint! They’re comfortable right out of the box, and run true-to-size. I really like the longer vamp, which makes them more secure on the foot, and gives them a touch of Euro flair.

While we’re talking about wardrobe workhorses, here’s a find I didn’t expect to love as much as I do….

The Layering Tee I’ve Already Reordered (Travel- and Budget-Friendly!)

For years now, I’ve been looking to replace some old modal tees from Eileen Fisher that I loved and wore to death. I tried this style from Quince on a whim, and have since ordered a second color. The fabric is lightweight and breathable, and the modal in the blend gives it some drape and a silky feel. The fabric doesn’t cling or bunch up under sweaters or jackets.

I ran mine through the washer (cold) and dryer (low heat) and it came out looking like new. These tees run true-to-size for a relaxed fit; size down if you prefer a slimmer fit. I’m 5’1″ and in size Small, the length hits at my low hip. And the sleeves aren’t too long either!

And stepping away from fashion for a moment…

I Love the Smell of Accountability in the Morning…

At the highest levels. We could sure use some of that on this side of the pond.

Netflix Find: How to Get to Heaven from Belfast

3 characters from "How to Get to Heaven from Belfast" show on Netflix.

If Derry Girls and Bad Sisters had a baby, it would probably look a lot like How to Get to Heaven from Belfast now on Netflix. (Lisa McGee, who brought us Derry Girls is the creator of this one.) Three high school friends—now in their mid-30’s—travel to the wake of their fourth group member, who has supposedly met an untimely death on a staircase. But something doesn’t seem right, and they head off on a chaotic quest to get to the bottom of it, while trying to protect their dark secret from 20 years prior.

I’m a few episodes in, and have laughed out loud at least a dozen times. The writing, characters, and plot twists, (not to mention the Irish accents), already have me dreading getting to the end.

  1. Susan—I’ve tried a few household things from Quince and 1 mini cashmere sweater dress that was perfect being petite. They don’t mention overall length on their sweaters. The sweater you’re wearing is shown on a model 5’10”. I’m 5 ft and short-waisted. Just wondering if the sleeves and length will be too long. Would you be able to leave the sweater untucked? I’m surprised you weren’t in a xsmall.

    1. Hi Rose, untucked this sweater hits me at low hip. I’m 5’1″. The sleeves aren’t too long, either! I ordered the Small because I wanted a more relaxed fit in this style, but X-Small would have worked for a more fitted look.

  2. Susan,
Is your Tbco scarf soft? I’ve been eyeing that one for a while.
I tried the navy/white one you’ve shown from JCrew and it was not comfortable, so it went back (along with their frustrating return fee, but I digress).
    Thanks,
    Linda

  3. Hi Susan,

I, too, discovered How to get to Heaven from Belfast and enjoyed every minute of it! Have you seen Bodkin – also on Netflix? It is in the same vein.

Thank you for what you do! You always add a very pleasant distraction to my week. 🙂

  4. “How to Get to Heaven from Belfast” was SO good! I binge watched all the episodes in one day because I just had to know what was going on.

  5. Hi, Susan! I love your tv show and book recommendations. Please keep them coming. I’ll second your enthusiasm for How to Get to Heaven from Belfast. It was a delight — both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

  6. I came across the Netflix show and wondered if was good. Now I know I’ll search it out tonight for a good laugh. Thanks for the style and series tip!

  7. Thanks for “ I Love the Smell of Accountability in the Morning…” and access to the article. I know many content creators want to keep their posts non political and I respect that, but it was brave of you to go there. I pray that America can follow the ethical example set by England and hold the Epstein class accountable!

      1. Basic human decency — now there’s something I can really get behind!
I’m hoping for spring/summer scarves that will be as nice as what you’ve shown here.

    1. Hi Janet – I appreciate your comment, and I also hate to think we’ve come to a place where speaking out against illegal and immoral acts is only for the “brave”.

It is extremely hard to respect content creators who say “my posts are non-political”.

At this time, what that really means is it’s more important for “content creators/businesses” to keep followers than to speak out against the vulgarity, immorality and lawlessness (not to mention a lack of human decency as Susan says) that characterize the current administration.

Around the world, those who believe in freedom, truth, free speech, human rights, and the rule of law look to patriotic Americans of every political belief to stand up for their democracy. Not doing so is just self-interest and cowardice.

  8. Susan,
I had to chuckle, I had the same week you had; those pesky 6 month appointments 3 days in a row. Glad to know I am not the only one this happens to.

    Thank you for this blog.

  9. We loved that show too (but what a horrible, hard to remember title!). Also love the triangular scarves – like the French I usually wear a (small) scarf or knotted bandana to keep my neck warm (in the Seattle area) and have grown quite a collection. Need to look into the striped version from LLBean you’ve included!
Thanks for all you do to keep us informed.

  10. Just finished How to Get to Heaven From Belfast and LOVED it. I’m a little confused about the conclusion but could honestly watch it again. There’s even talk of a Season Two …………….. 😊

  11. I am loving that series too! I also have laughed out loud and your description of it as if Bad Sisters and Derry Girls had a baby this would be it. So clever and funny and I am sucker for any show filmed in Ireland.

  12. I have succumbed to the triangle scarves too even though I swore I wouldn’t. They are easy to use and give warmth at my back while wearing a boat neck sweater.
I am also watching How to get to heaven from Belfast but I am always watching movies far too seriously so I haven’t been laughing yet. When she tried to shove that postcard into the coffin and the lid fell off..that is funny. But I was all “OH NO!!!”.

    1. The scarves really are easy, though, aren’t they? And yes, they keep the neck warm. I think “Belfast” gets funnier as it goes along. Some of the one-liners are so good.

  13. Agree, we need more accountability on this side of the pond! Starting at the top.

Also loved the Netflix show. So darkly humorous.

  14. I had the same week, 4 days of annual appointments in a row. What was I thinking? The accountability issue is everything! So proud to be half English! So shocked that no one, No One, in Congress has the backbone to end this insanity. Cheers to you for taking a stand.

  15. So glad you followed up on the Scarves post. The independent maker I had in mind is: https://www.ellenmartintextiles.com/silk-scarves. Really quality and lovely designs and design process. The fabric is lovely (the wool/cashmere) and I highly recommend! Just not sure if they still ship to the U.S. : I am fortunate to have all things U.K. Shipped to my daughter there….
