LA Confidential

Just for you, on the qt and very hush hush.

Over the weekend I got my mitts (and lips) on some of the new Chanel Rouge Coco Shine lipsticks.  I think for the most part this new line lives up to the hype. This is a sheer lipstick with a bit of shine (though not super glossy or goopy) and is very moisturizing. The colors are quite nice; be aware that many look very dark or intense in the tube but are much lighter (both in shade and intensity) when applied. Being as emollient as they are, they don’t last as long as the original Rouge Coco, but do have considerably more staying power than most sheer, moisturizing lipsticks I’ve tried (still had color 3 hours later, and none of that dried out feeling).

Ooh, pretty!

My favorite colors so far are Deauville, a slightly brownish berry, the-color-of-my-lips-but-just-a-little-more shade, and Evasion which is a very pretty peachy pink. All of the beauty editors are swooning over Boy, but that one was just too purple for me. Tomorrow is the official launch date for this line, but it seems a few stores have testers available upon request, and (ssssh!) a couple of very nice Sales Associates let me make an advance purchase.  On the qt and very hush hush.

Also still very hush hush, a bit of BIG news which shall remain on the qt until Thursday, but it involves a giveaway (!!!) and I’m so excited! Here’s a little hint:

À bientôt !

  1. Have never found a tube lipstick that lasts. If I have to keep lipstick on (such as at a dinner party) I use one of the paint-on semipermanents; Cover Girl Outlast seems best. I condition my lips before and after with Clinique’s All About Lips. For tube lipsticks, I buy colours I’ve tried in the store, but order from eBay, usually Lancome.

  2. I’m wondering if Ines de la Fressange’s little red book involved in that surprise? I am pondering on the Amazon webpage whether I should get it right away with one-day shipping or wait for the first reviews. It is out today! Did you get it?
    Irene.

  3. I’m totally addicted to long-lasting lipstick now. I can’t stand to use anything else! But for quite a few years — back in the day — I only wore Chanel. They kept discontinuing my favorite reds so I moved on to other brands.

  4. I am happy with my first Chanel lipstick (your posting actually inspired me), I might give the sheer Coco a try, since the MAC lipsticks and even the super-$$$-Dior-lipstick make my lips peel.
Chanel seems to nourish the lips more than anything.
Boy might replace one of my old MAC lipsticks. Why not follow the hype 😉

  5. I’m so obsessed with Chanel cosmetics. I just can’t wait to try these. I like Rouge Coco (especially the Jersey Rose that you recommended this winter), but do find it a touch drying. I’m always on the lookout for the perfect sheer lipstick, especially since Bobbie Brown discontinued Sheer Ruby, my longtime favorite.

  6. I’ll have to check out those lipsticks. In the meantime, please tell me that the giveaway is a pair of Roger Vivier flats.

  7. Does the giveaway have anything to do with Ines de la Fressange’s new book Parisian Chic, which came out today? It’s getting a lot of press and I’m looking forward to getting a copy…
    🙂

  8. I love sheer lipsticks, but I get so frustrated by the fact that I have to reapply frequently – might give one of these a try …

  9. vicki archer – the colors are really amazing and very wearable!

Paula – I do find these to be very moisturizing. I also have dry lips and many highly pigmented or long-lasting lipsticks make me peel as well.

    Julianne – check back tomorrow!

Duchesse – because my lips are so dry, I’m used to having to reapply *something* every 2-3 hours, so it doesn’t bother me to reapply a moisturizing lipstick.

LuxeBytes – I LOVE Chanel cosmetics, really do. The colors on these are so great, very wearable.

Jane W – oh, I wish. I’m still lusting after a pair of those RV’s myself. But check back tomorrow…

  10. Irene – all shall be revealed tomorrow. 😉

WendyB – I keep trying the long-lasting lipsticks but they always dry me out. 🙁 Yours always looks great.

    Joan – me too!

Rebecca – I really think Chanel makes very good cosmetics. They’re not cheap but their formulations are excellent, as are the colors.

Susan Tiner – I’ve never had much luck with the long-lasting lipsticks. They stay on, but they tend to dry out my lips. Wendy likes the MAC version.

Tiffany – I still find I reapply every 3 hours or so, but I’m not bothered by that. My lips are dry, so even if I’m just wearing balm I’m always reapplying.

Caren – mmmmmaybe…but check back tomorrow.

elizabeth – I think these will be really great for summer wear!
