Traveling Shoes

Pikolinos laceless oxford in brown, included in the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

I’m out of town for a couple of days, and the friends I’m staying with don’t have reliable wi-fi. (They make up for it with lots of friendly cats and dogs!)

But I did want to mention that I’ve been road-testing these shoes, and they’re great for travel days! Very comfortable, slip on and off, and nothing to set off metal detectors. They’re also 40% off.

Back with more tomorrow!

  1. Love your blog!
Can you talk about great low/ short boots for fall? I need a pair that are really comfortable, as I’m mostly in my feet as a teacher, but somewhat stylish. I’m 62 yrs old.

  2. Are you kidding me? Ha — I already ordered these gorgeous Pikolinis from Nordstrom (sale price, of course). See what an influence you are? Beautiful construction and comfy cushy. I’m a bit undecided on the size tho. My size is quite snug in this shoe so I’ll need to try the next largest size to compare. It is a nice classic shoe and not at all “masculine-looking”. Non-slip sole is an added bonus. PS — also purchased the Blondo waterproof booties at a nice sale price. Thank you!

  3. These shoes are indeed gorgeous, but the laceless look must be a “Gamine” style. The empty holes would drive me crazy — I would feel compelled to add laces. Maybe my personal style is “Fussy”?

    1. I bought these shoes during the Nordstrom pre-fall sale. They are gorgeous. I am not at all a “gamine“, but the no–lace look is really cute and just a little funkier than a classic style. I’m not even sure you could put laces in, but if you did it would ruin the look.

  4. About that pull-tab on the back of the shoe: when it’s located as it is on this shoe and you’re wearing full-length pants, the pant hem frequently gets caught by the tab–not a good look. I’ve gotten so that I only buy shoes where the tab is installed lower on the back of the shoe, where it still serves its purpose but doesn’t interfere with pant legs. Of course, if you’re wearing ankle length pants, not a problem, but I’m only 5-1, so everything’s longer on me unless I’ve rolled or hemmed.

  5. my favorite shoes! I have 2 iterations of those Pickolini shoes – been wearing them for ages. I wear them with no show socks – and my favorites are Bombas socks – Awesome shoes!

  6. I have the most comfortable travel shoes and I Road tested them for 4 weeks in the Mediterranean last month. They are an Australian brand called Frankie 4 and I can honestly say from Barcelona to France and Italy and Slovenia and Greece and so on they were only off my feet to sleep. Not cheap but worth every cent. Actually it’s great to be able to promote an Aussie brand.

    1. Hello Deidre. I bought a pair of Frankie4 trainers and ended up with a huge hole in my heel from the blisters the shoes caused. They seem to be a shoe which is hit and miss, because I know some women who love them and others who hate them (due to being uncomfortable). Incannot believe that a podiatrist/physio designed them. Personally, I am a devotee of Rollie, another Aussie brand – light, comfortable and stylish.

      1. Hi Eleanor. Yes I have heard about Rollies so might try them. I have looked at them and they seem very jazzy to look at. Wow you poor girl ending up with blisters from Frankie4 shoes. Mind you we all have different feet to suit. I just bought a pr of ASICS joggers and at this stage I’m undecided as to whether they are that great. I wanted a pr of a Brooks but they weren’t comfortable. Nice to chat. We girls need to look after our feet. X

        1. This is hilarious, we must have very different feet. I needed some new joggers. The ASICS not very comfortable, but the Brooks fitted perfectly and bought a pair two days ago. One thing about the Rollies, they don’t have huge arch support, but I can walk 10 kms in them without problems.
