Le weekend

To celebrate my birthday, le monsieur made reservations to see this exhibit at LACMA tomorrow!

Renoir in the 20th Century.

Renoir in the 20th Century focuses on the last three decades of Renoir’s career, when, following his rupture with impressionism, he turned to an art that was
decorative, classical, and informed by a highly personal interpretation of the
Great Tradition.

LA has some really wonderful art museums and exhibits, and we’ve been trying to get out to see more of them.

What about you, any exciting weekend plans?

  1. I can’t think of a better way to spend a birthday than a quality art show – remember that works of art usually increase in value with their age!

Do assume that a supper will follow up on Renoir!

  2. Happy Birthday! What a thoughtful plan your husband has made for enjoying the day with you, exposed to beauty sure to provoke interesting discussion. Enjoy — you deserve!
We are likely to take in an exhibition as well — Leonardo da Vinci’s studies of the body at the Vancouver Art Gallery. Different century, different visions, of course, but still, I’ll feel a wee bit connected to you as we walk from artwork to artwork.

  3. Monsieur is very thoughtful, happy birthday DP, enjoy the exhibition. We’ll probably go to a small exhibition at the ICA in London tomorrow, and maybe the flower market on Sunday.

  4. Wow, lovely birthday plans!

No doubt the Renoir will be amazing. I love me a good retrospective.

[IIRC he painted a lot of women with your coloring…so don’t forget to be shallow by looking out for fabulous color combinations you can steal!]

  5. Happy Birthday! I’m seeing this exhibit on April 10 with a group from my college. Let me know how you like it. Of course, who could not like Renoir?

  6. Happy, happy birthday, dear friend.

I hope you have a perfect day in every way.

I do love Pisces, les poissons which swim in opposite directions — the dreamers, the generous, lovely, creative beings that make like so rich.

    xo,
    Tish

  7. I love going to museums on my birthday. My first “married” birthday, I went to see the Romanov Jewels. Many happy returns, Pseu.

  8. Happy Birthday! I went to a Bar Association conference. Lots of mature aged men wearing blazers. I had a drink at the Versace Hotel. Lots of Medusa heads all about the traps. I bought a Missoni scarf. So far, it’s been excellent. xxxx

  9. Happy Birthday to you! I hope the museum gives you a Renoir in honour of your big day. 😉

  10. Before the rain knocks my internet connection out again, I just wanted to say thanks so much to everyone for all of the nice wishes and comments!

  11. Happy Birthday! I hope you are having a wonderful time in LA. I love Renoir! He is my favorite artist. I hope you enjoy the exhibit; I’m sure you will. Have a great weekend! Jennifer:)

  12. Dear Ms. Pseu, it is a great source of satisfaction to me that you are married to a very nifty man it shows that your good taste does not stop at fashion. Have a superb birthday!

  13. Bon anniversaire!

Just got back from northern CA, where we saw an Amish quilt exhibit at the deYoung. My in-laws used to live in Pasadena. We miss our visits to the Norton Simon–one of our absolute favorite museums.
