  1. Not sure if I should take on the challenge of validating your prediction or not, but this does look like a fun meme. I have two big (and boring) meetings today but I’ll try to get to this when I get back. Meanwhile, it was fun to read through your responses — you do write well, even in a to-the-point exercise/genre like this!

  2. materfamilias – thanks!

cybill – it’s funny, it’s sweet, and validating for nous femmes d’un certain age but probably won’t make anyone’s top 10 lists this year. There’s nothing wrong with it; it’s light, fluffy entertainment, which we all need sometimes.

LBR – it’s a smell I’ve come to associate with being around horses, so has very pleasant connatations. I’m off to read your answers now.

Thomas – they go quickly. 🙂 This was a fun meme to do.

  3. Dejapseu: Thank you for doing the meme. Knowing random things like favourite smells helps complete the mental picture of a person 🙂

I am pleasantly surprised that you mention sandalwood. I love sandalwood and mentioned it too. Oh and it has a great use for fashionistas – keeping pieces of sandalwood with your silks (instead of mothballs or cedar) keeps moths and other spoiling species away not to mention the added bonus of the wonderful smell.

Your mention of the smell of the pavement after rain also reminds me of the smell of the first rain of the monsoon. These are observations that people in warm climes make I think. 🙂

Thanks again and also for your kind words.

  4. A bit off topic but what did you think of “Miss Pettigrew lives for a day” I’m thinking of going to see it.

  5. I think I have beaten Materfamilias to the punch. My meme is up. Thanks for tagging me. I really was having trouble with coming up with a post for today. Thanks for giving me something to write about!!

Manure and pine shavings? The pine shavings I get. But, manure? Well, I used to love the smell of burning trash when I was in the Dominican republic.

  6. Shefaly – you mean like an actual piece of the wood? Where does one find such a thing?

And yes, when you live somewhere that doesn’t get a lot of rain, it’s a special treat.

This one was fun, thanks for tagging me!

  7. Dejapseu: Yes, I did mean an actual piece of wood. I never thought about where to get it! My family in India has several sandalwood trees so I get a few pieces each year. Devout Hindus also keep a polished slab of sandalwood in their worship corner in the house, which they rub with a dampened finger to make a ’tilak’ (or dot for the forehead) out of. It keeps the head cool, it is believed.

Thanks for doing the meme. 🙂

PS: I am sure you have seen the Hermes summer 08 collection. I saw it today and Indian pinks and oranges abound! They also have a Poivre Samarcand and a Vetyver spray which really got my attention. I need to drop hints for my b’day presents starting soon 😉
