Perhaps not my week…

While driving home last night, was rear-ended by a minivan while stopped at a light. My poor little smooshed Honda!

I’m fine, except for a bit of soreness in my shoulders.  But dang it, I didn’t need another Thing to deal with…

  1. I feel your pain! My own baby Scarlett had the garage door from our condo close on her roof last week, and the condo corporation doesn’t want to take responsiblity for it. Just remember it is only cosmetic, and it will be fixed.

Do go today if you can and get your neck and shoulder checked. I was in a very small fender bender in June and thought my shoulder and neck were just a little stiff……..4 months later and now I am in physio three times a week for mild whiplash. P.S. I was NOT the driver for this little contre temps.

  2. Oh no! I had a 6 month old car rear ended last year by a little old lady psychologist who told me that she’d been tuning the radio and not looking and, in any case, was feeling neurotic about some work issues. As if that was an excuse…. Hoping you either got no lame excuse, or got one so hilarious that you have new blog material.

  3. Oh, Sue! That`s really not what you needed. I hope the insurance stuff gets processed quickly and you figure out transportation for yourself without too much delay. Such a hassle! I`m so glad you weren`t seriously hurt, but do take care with those shoulders. Especially with stress around, those guys carry enough already.

  4. Oh dear! Glad you are not injured. I swear, the worst thing about fender benders is having to DEAL with them. Its like I just dont want to deal with one more crappy thing sometimes and then I get hit by some driver. I feel your pain, and I dont mean in the shoulders. Just remember, tomorrow is another day and this too shall pass.

    Thanks doll,

  5. That sucks big time, sorry! I know you’re just a little sore now, but IME things can get worse later. Fingers crossed you will be pain-free, however!

Remember that all the time and interference with your work or family responsibilities gets factored into any settlement.

Document all the minutes/hours you spend getting car-related details worked out AND record all your symptoms — and don’t hesitate to go for a massage or a doctor visit as it’s covered by the other party’s MVA (Motor Vehicle Insurance).

  6. That’s rotten luck. I suppose it could have been worse…
I hope that the insurance will give you a loaner car while yours is in the shop getting repaired. I also hope that you will get those shoulders looked at by your doctor.
Perhaps a long soak in a tub with some epsom salts might be in order?
    Hugs from the Hostess

  7. Oh man – I’m so sorry! I hate driving in LA – everyone’s so busy doing other things while driving. (I suppose that’s true of everywhere now, though.) Glad you’re okay!

  8. Poor you! Let this be the end of all this awfulness happening for you right now!

You may feel fine now, but be prepared to feel a little more sore in the coming days. Rest if you can and maybe take some arnica. xo, Adrienne

  9. This accident thing must be going around because I was in a hit and run accident the first week of September and then I had an accident in the car that I was renting…arggggh!

I am just thankful that no one was hurt.

Do you think that this is a sign from the universe for you to get a new car?

  10. Oooh, so sorry..Ouch. And watch those shoulders too. Just when you could do without it as well. Have to say that I love your dress from previous post and also (sorry, a lot of catching up to do) I agree, cannot stand the word PRETTY either. Attractive, well that’s another matter, but pretty is just too ‘cutsey’. Which I’m not. And you probably aren’t either! X

  11. Why do these things come in waves? So sorry, and also glad you weren’t seriously injured. But you really didn’t need this now.

  12. So sorry to hear about your accident. I know it’s beyond important that you weren’t hurt and it’s (only) minor damage, but these things can be really unnerving and you have every right to be upset.

  13. SO sorry and that is so annoying and inconvenient…..Hope you feel 100% quickly and your car is repaired quickly…xv

  14. I’m so sorry about your now smooshed car, but thankfully you’re all right. Gotta find the silver lining!

  15. So sorry to hear of this. What a drag. Please do go to a doctor and have your neck and shoulders checked out. Whiplash is not fun and can sneak up days, weeks or months later. A baseline doctor visit needs to be added to the insurance report. Been there, done that. Take care of yourself!

  16. You poor thing! Do make sure you take care of your neck and shoulder – and may this represent the end of the run of awful stuff for you.

  17. Sorry to read about this ! Please have a medical check-up.
When I am driving, I hate when someone is ” breathing in my neck “, so I might step on the brakes a few times ( in advance ), to show, that I am irritated. It sometimes works.
But the traffic over here is minimal compared to LA, so I guess this piece of advice ( for the future ) would not work over there..
Bad things have a tendency to pile up.

  18. Pseu, I’m so sorry to hear of your car accident- but I’m glad you are physically unharmed. I tell you life throws those curve balls when you least are ready for them. Sending you some hang-in-there vibes and wishing you much grace under pressure.

  19. Oh no poor you – why does it always pour not rain? One of my girls at work got hit by an un-manned car the day before her driving test today – i felt so sorry for her – just what you need and un-manned – have you ever? i am glad you are ok x

  20. Thanks, everyone. The good news is the soreness in my shoulders abated with a single Advil and hasn’t returned. The bad news is that Sparky is (sniff!) totaled. What that means is that the repairs would cost far more than the car is worth, so it looks like we’ll be car shopping. More bad news, the owner of the car that hit me is uninsured…
