One of the commenters in yesterday’s post asked about wearing a scarf with a brooch or with necklaces. I think you can certainly do so. Scarf and brooch is probably the easiest combination, as they generally don’t occupy the same real estate. I use a “rule of two” with accessories these days. Pick any two: earrings, necklace, bracelets, scarf, brooch. This keeps me from looking too “over done.”
Wear necklaces under a scarf if you know you’ll be removing your scarf indoors.

Or, wear a necklace in conjunction with a scarf, as above.
I find that longer earrings sometimes are hard to wear with a scarf that has more volume around the neck. But I have a short neck, YMMV.

I never wear a scarf and necklace together – I’m short, with short neck and rather busty. There is already a lot going on up there. A pin is fine to secure a scarf but more than that is too much. As you say, YMMV!
Chanel’s store window in Paris has been showing a brooch attached at the bottom of a chunky scarf…it’s an interesting look, and one other way to show off these fun pieces.
Love the rule of two. I generally count a scarf as a necklace, but I love your look in pic #2 here!

I often wear my delicate gold chain fleur-de-lis (Wendy B) necklace under a scarf. Only I know it’s there, but if it gets too warm and the scarf has to come off, I don’t feel so bare. And otherwise, I just like having its prettiness be my own little secret. . .
I often wear a scarf and brooch together for outerwear — i.e. a brooch on the lapel of my coat, a scarf round my neck. In that case, I’m usually sticking to a monochrome scarf.
My big consideration for not over-accessorizing is that my glasses are fairly statement-ish (by Chrome Hearts, they’re tortoise with gold vermeil Maltese Cross/fleur-de-lis’ish decorations on the arms. So I have to decide if I’m wearing them or contacts for the day before I decide on jewelry.
I wear scarves a lot and usually do not wear a necklace unless I am going to be removing my scarf.
Long earrings can ruin a loosely woven scarf by catching in the threads so I avoid those as well. I learned this one the hard way.
I think your dragon brooch is a statement piece. Fun too.
Rule of two, I think I’d break this one often!
I’m most comfortable with scarves, so usually that’s it for accessorizing. Although I do always wear small silver ‘bean’ stud earrings that I don’t count.
So for me it would be scarf or necklace or rarely a brooch or some dangling earrings instead of my studs. Oh and I do have a couple of bracelets and cuffs that I wear once in a while.
Right now I’ve got very plain black frames for my glasses, but they’re boring me so next time I’m getting a more interesting ‘statement’ pair, perhaps multi-colour, so as MF says above, these would count as an accessory too.
A brooch or pin can be helpful in securing a scarf. I view many scarves as necklace substitutes and skip the necklace.
Your dragon brooch is fabulous. And I too have a short neck and I feel as if I’m being strangled by a scarf. I love their colors sometimes so I wish I could wear them.
I love really scarves with my necklaces but the scarves I use are men’s deconstructed ties. I take them apart, take any stuffing material out of them, stitch the edges to prevent fraying, and tie them in a long necklace- like bow around my neck. Then I add some necklaces. Deconstructed men’s ties are very thin and not bulky like most women’s scarves so adding jewelry around the neck looks amazing with them.
I love that pin in your blazer so much! Reminds of my denim jacket in the 80s which I covered in antique rhinestone pins – probably a bit of an overload but very in style then 🙂
I do wear scarves and brooches together, trying to get that same collection of antique pins out and about a bit more. But I’m careful about piling on jewelry. I like a simple standout piece.
During the cool and cold season, the warm scarf is a must, but it is a part of the outer wear. But this really was not what you asked.
No, I´d choose either a scarf or necklace, we´re I indoors.

I only use a scarf for warmth – outerwear, as Mette said, so, I don’t really use one as an accessory. Indoors, I take it off, so I’ve never given what jewelry I wear with it any thought. Your brooch looks great.
Funny, but I have not been a big scarf wearer, except the winter kind for warmth – my neck can’t breathe. But this is new territory that I must explore!
I sometimes wear a long pendant with a scarf that is kept close to the neck. It can make for an interesting contrast or complement.
Yup, I tend to stick to the rule of two, too. I wear scarves indoors (usually, unless if gets too warm) and don’t wear necklaces under them ‘cos I fear they’ll get caught and snag the fabric. I tend to wear short drop earrings (or occasionally pearl studs)

The brooch, scarf and jean jacket are really fun together and I will have to try it. Often, I just don’t take the time to coordinate multiple accessories but your posts are really inspiring me. I don’t wear a necklace with a silk scarf. I don’t want to snag the fabric and it is not seen anyway. I’ll wear a bracelet.
I actually have quite a wardrobe of scarves and wraps. I will wear a smooth longer earring with a scarf that is worn loosely around my shoulders. Otherwise I wear smaller earrings. And I love wearing brooches on my lapel with or without a scarf.
In Montréal, it’s chilly so much of the year, if you didn’t wear a necklace with a scarf, you’d *never* wear one! If a necklace snag fabric, why buy it?
I ignore the rule of two, wearing anything from one (wedding ring) to large whole integers, just depends. But I don’t wear dangly earrings plus a necklace, or I look like Dame Edna.
I tend to go for one or the other, but if I had that brooch I would wear it with everything! What a fabulous piece!!!
I tend to either pile it on meaning multiple pieces of jewelry often with scarves, or be completely minimalist. The only time I go for the rule of two is with evening looks and statement making pieces. But I love a scarf and a pin, and since I wear scarves often as outerwear I will often have a necklace underneath to avoid feeling too naked when the scarf is removed. But I’ve worn scarves with necklaces as well, sometimes even wrapping them together.
