Random, Florence

Right before I snapped this shot, someone filled up a bottle of drinking water from this fountain.

This is one of those weeks where the Irresistible Force (ideas/intentions) is meeting the Immovable Object (number of hours in a day), and unlike the theoretical perpetual stalemate, the Immovable Object is winning. In other words, work and family obligations are taking precedence over writing blog posts. So here are some pretty pictures of Florence, Italy.

Il Duomo

We never made it inside, as standing in a long line in the hot sun had little appeal. The exterior was pretty darn spectacular, though. In Rome, we had seen lots of red marble in buildings and sculptures. In Florence, green stone was predominant. Below, the Basilica of Santa Maria Novella also utilizes plenty of green stone for the facade.

Stuffed boar outside of a butcher shop in the village of Greve. Le monsieur was on another Gelato Quest™ during our short visit, so we didn’t stop to look inside.

Meanwhile, back in Florence…

Scooters as far as they eye can see….

This morning as I gaze into my closet, I must again answer the question, “what does one wear to a work outing in a skybox at a baseball game?” (On a hot day, with senior level executives in attendance, just to keep things interesting.)  I think this calls for a Polyvore…

  1. Sorry you’re feeling so time-pressed, but not at all sorry that you’re compensating but showing us pretty pictures of Italy — these are wonderful — boars, scooters, and architectural stunners!

But if you get time to put together a Polyvore post, I’d love to see what you wear to the skybox. . .

  2. Business casual is the devil. I’m mulling over a post as we speak. Looking forward to your Polyvore. Will include all resources I can find…

  3. Oh, I love looking at the buildings…they are so beautiful…I think I would wear a casual summer dress…or a cute walking short with a fun scarf for an accessory….feeling comfortably cool is easy to obtain with the cute dresses and shorts out now! Have fun at the game!

  4. You should wear the orange and black of the San Francisco Giants, especially if you are attending the Dodger’s game. Ha!

Actually if you have something blue, then you can’t go wrong with the Dodgers or the Detroit Tigers as both have blue as part of their team colors.

Hmmm, a day game in a skybox? Color me green with envy.

  5. Have you been to the skybox before? The ones at the stadium in Houston are enclosed and air conditioned, so maybe yours will be also. I usually wear capris or a casual skirt, with sandals, and some kind of linen-y top. And I actually enjoy watching baseball, so boo to all of you who assume it’s boring!

  6. Dressing for the skybox with execs on a hot day sounds like a real challenge.

I miss the scooters and vespas in Italy. It’s fun seeing your photos and remembering our own vacations. Aren’t the fountains wonderful?

  7. Hello:
We are sorry that you have so many pressures at home and at work. You will soon need another holidat to properly recover from the last one!

However, we have so enjoyed the pictures of Florence, we never tire of looking at such wondrous architecture. So compensate away!!

  8. Oh my were you at today’s game? SO HOT in our seats behind home plate we had to move to the first base side under the overhang or whatever it’s called. No need for high fashion in our seats, just lots of water.

Lucky you if you were in a skybox. I imagine it was much cooler there. This evening’s air is now cool and lovely. SoCal can be so confusing wetherwise.

  9. cg – yes, but wasn’t it a fun game?? I was SO disappointed at that last out, was really hoping for a grand slam. You’re right; it’s VERY confusing here weather-wise!!!

  10. There are also a lot of bicycles in Florence, which is a fairly flat city (unlike Perugia where I studied, half way between Florence and Rome – atop a high hill or small mountain!)

Actually a more subtle, burnt orange is a common garment colour in Italy as it fits right in with streetscape colours in some towns or cities, once again very much so in Rome.
