Reviendrons á Paris!!!!
Dollar-Euro exchange rate be damned!!!
We bit the bullet and booked our flight for October (and already had trouble getting the dates/times we wanted using our frequent flyer miles to upgrade…according to the airline reservation guy people book up to 351 days ahead!). So we’re only in Paris for five days, counting the day we arrive jet-lagged at 7am, but we’ll know our way around and have already started to plan our itenerary based on what we weren’t able to fit in last May. Top of the list are Musée Marmottan, Musée Picasso, Bon Marché, Jardins Luxembourg and actually climbing the stairs to the tops of Montmartre and Notre Dame now that I’ll have a functioning hip to allow such.
We’ll also be in NY for four days on the way back (had originally hoped for 7 in Paris, 3 in NY but had to go with available flights) so will have plenty of time to do some museum hopping there too and see a show or two.

Fabulous news, Pseu! We booked last week as well for a week in Paris in late May. The NY portion is a nice way of breaking up the long flight and getting a different kind of city experience as well.
The Musee Picasso is lovely! And while in the Jardins Luxembourg, I’d suggest going to the “Theatre” there– it’s a children’s Marionette theater (and was featured in Francois Truffaut’s 400 Blows) and it is absolutely delightful!
materfamilias – that’s what we thought too (breaking up the trip). The company I work for has a large NY office and many people I work closely with, so I plan to stop in and say hi as well.
ashe – how cool! We’ll definitely check that out; thanks for the suggestion.
LBR – YES! I will be around, just let me know when you’ll be here and your itinerary.
You’re so discriminating and knowledgeable about bags, I hesitate to suggest this, but if you’re still looking for a cross-body bag, have you checked out the Canadian site, Roots, http://canada.roots.com? (they may have a US site as well). Besides their messenger bags, they also offer an array of fairly classically styled urban bags in good leathers — their Downtown or Midtown bags might work for you. Prices range from $150-250.
Hooray for you!
That Montmartre climb is a tough one, but well worth it. I’m glad for you that you’ll be able to make it.
I hope you have a wonderful trip, and I’m jealous, as I’m sure everyone else will be, too.
I am booking my apartment this week. I will be there in July. I will pass on the best of my trip to you.
p.s. I will be in L.A. in March. Will you be around?
Bon voyage! Good for you!
Daughter has got me hooked on the movie Ratatouille (we watch about 5 times per week). The cityscape you posted looks very similar to the one the little rat finds when he manages to crawl out of the sewer, and is thrilled to find himself in Paris!
Daughter has already asked why they speak English in a movie set in France (she’s 4). The accents the actors use crack me up. Pseu, I’m imagining that your French is terrific, and that you can manage phone calls and everything.
this femme is off to paris in 45 days! i received a grant to finish research on my book. it’s a small grant but covers the basic airfare/hotel/breakfast portions for 8 days with a bit leftover for the research parts. since i will have very very little time/money for shopping, i’d like to combine the research and shopping. does anyone know some good street markets / thrift stores or funky places to look for some unusual accessories? i.e., shawls, old jackets, shoes, etc. suggestions are appreciated.
materfamilias – yes, I’ve actually looked at their bags online before, and they have a store in BH I’m going to peruse once I’m driving again.
dana – my French is passable enough that people start talking to me way to fast for me to follow. ;-P But it’s been a LONG time since my last French class and in reality I’m quite rusty.
Bonnie-ann – how fabulous!!! Have a wonderful time. I’m afraid I have no advice regarding shopping; we barely scraped the surface when we were there.
merci, deja pseu. perhaps on my perambulations around the city, i shall discover something i can then pass on to you.
How fabulous and exciting!
