room with a view…Seattle???
Yes, Seattle. Because we book our flights using airline mileage programs, sometimes we have to be flexible to get desired travel dates, and in this case it meant that we had to book the transatlantic leg from Seattle. I haven’t been here since I was a teenager. We decided to stay overnight, both to have a little time to enjoy a bit of the city (it was a beautiful evening and after so much sitting between time at the airport and the flight, we were happy to walk around for about an hour before dinner)…
…But especially to meet up with a dear blogging friend whom I haven’t seen since 2009!
Frances who writes the lovely and engaging blog materfamilias writes was one of the first bloggers I connected with, first online and then in person in 2009. She is just as charming and easy to talk to as you’d imagine from reading her blog. She and her husband made the multi-leg trek from the island where they live to meet us in Seattle. We enjoyed a late-ish dinner (though we were surprised when they pretty much closed the restaurant around us just a little before 11pm). Of course, we never run out of topics of conversation, and could have sat there all night. Subjects ranged from travel to blogging to current events to favorite TV shows (we’re all big fans of HBO’s “The Wire.”) We really enjoy their company and hope they’ll come visit us in Los Angeles soon (noodge, noodge! 😉 ).
We’re off to the airport soon to get ourselves “across the pond.” More soon from…Amsterdam!!

Two of my favorite people too:). You do realize that San Francisco is kind of midway….
It’s definitely midway 🙂
Mater is one of the few bloggers I’ve met in person. Isn’t she lovely?
Funny, I may have passed you on the street on my way home from work. 😉 Though not so sure I would recognize you. You really did get lucky to be here with such fantastic weather this week. It’s so unpredictable this time of year. Today is even more beautiful and I’m having a blogger meet up myself today.
Have a good trip!
Love your haircut Susan!
Beware the pickpockets and thieves in Amsterdam, especially at the airport/train station. (And every other big city too.) While standing in line to see the Late Rembrandt show at the Rijksmuseum the other day, a couple just in from San Diego told us how they were robbed. He, managing two suitcases and wondering whether to take a taxi or train to their next destination, had his bag slashed right off him and had his arm slashed as well. Everything gone. A precious vacation day spent with the police and American Embassy trying to get a new passport.
Wear your bag crossbody and preferably wear a bag that has metal in the strap so that slashing doesn’t work.
Despite all that, Holland is divine. Really!
Bon Voyage.
Cute haircut and glasses Have a wonderful trip!! Coco
Bon voyage! Seattle is such a lovely city! I really enjoy the waterfront and market. Your hair looks cute and should be easy to manage.
It was so good to see you and Le Monsieur again. And now that I’m retiring, LA is a definite possibility. 6 years is too long! Meanwhile, though, have a wonderful trip–I know you will!
You look great. Seattle is such a fun city. Enjoy your vacation in Europe. I soooo wish I could be there!
Best,
Michelle from simplysantabarbara.blogspot.com
Whew! I was afraid that something had awry on your trip! Enjoy Amsterdam – a new favorite city of mine, and of course Paris.
big hug,
Janice
Love the haircut, outfit, and smile! Have a wonderful trip!
I’m so glad you had great weather here in Seattle:) Pike Place Market is so nice at this time of year. I’m excited to check out materfamilias’ blog now too. Have a great trip!
So glad you had nice weather on your day in my / our fair city.
No, you don’t look at all like the “fifth Beatle”. Your hair looks lovely, and I hope mine will look as good when the layers finally grow in. Have a wonderful vacation!
Of all the style blogs on my list, I have been reading your’s and Mater’s the longest I think. Lovely to see you together again!
Welcome to Amsterdam! Lots to see, do and enjoy.
Frances is wonderful!! Lucky you, getting to catchup before you take off.
Bon Voyage! What a great place to begin your vacation! I was in Seattle for a conference a few years ago, just a stone’s throw from the market; what a wonderful city! Safe travels; we are all waiting with bated breath for tales from your trip!
Wonderful to see other bloggers in person. Looks like you’re having fun already. Safe travels.
Goodness me – just read an article about fanny packs being “back”, and Claire Vivier has made one in the ocelot. http://www.shoplesnouvelles.com/clare-v-jaguar-fanny-pack.html?utm_source=Polyvore&utm_medium=CPC&utm_campaign=Polyvore
Please tell us if you see this trend in Europe!!
Have a wonderful safe trip…looks like you hit Seattle at the perfect time with clear beautiful sky. And how much fun to get in a blogger meet up! Savor each moment.
You both have European chic! I keep checking back to your packing post–so very helpful.
Have a wonderful trip ! Love the haircut ! You look fantastic 🙂 x
Lovely photo of both of you! I’m glad you had sun there, as you are in the rainforest and it can be as rainy as London or Amsterdam. I’ve never been to Seattle – to nearby Vancouver, yes, but all too briefly, for work. Yes, your hair looks fine. Hope you had a good flight – for me it seems so long to cross North America and the Atlantic at once!
What a great meetup for both of you – you on your way further afield and Frances on a trip to Seattle. I like that you are both on a little adventure. I love your hair!
I can understand why your husband feels like Mr. Thatcher sometimes haha. You are meeting bloggers where ever you land.
