Effortless Style: The Best Slip-On & Side-Zip Sneakers for Women

When it comes to everyday ease, sneakers are hard to beat, especially the styles that don’t require fussing with laces. Whether you’re traveling, running errands, or just looking for a chic and comfortable option, slip-on sneakers for women and side-zip styles make life simpler without sacrificing style. I’ve rounded up some favorites that combine comfort, support, and a polished look, perfect for travel or everyday wear.

Sneakers have become a true style perennial, no longer reserved just for sports or casual outfits. The best pairs are supportive, comfortable, and designed for ease of movement, qualities that make them hard to resist. They’ve also become such a staple in the modern wardrobe that you’ll now find options versatile enough to take you from day to dinner. Still, there are times when it’s nice to skip the traditional lace-up in favor of something easier and just as stylish. And when it comes to slip-on sneakers and side-zip styles, the options are better than ever.

Sleek & Sporty Slip-On Sneakers

Sleek and retro-inspired sneakers are very much on-trend this season (a nice change from the uber-clunky “Dad sneakers,” IMO).

Adidas is on the case…these “Taekwondo” sneakers are light and comfortable right out of the box. They have a lightly padded removable insole with arch support. Slip these on for everything from a coffee run to a casual dinner out. I love this metallic brown, but they’re available in several other color combinations. They run true-to-size, but if you have a wider foot, you may want to size up by 1/2.

Cole Haan suede slip-on sneakers for women.

Sleek suede – $119.95

If you prefer a simple, minimalist look, these from Cole Haan might appeal. This grey suede is a go-with-everything choice for those with cool palettes, but other colors available too. I find Cole Haan shoes run pretty uniformly true-to-size.

Comfort & style – $439

A side-zip sneaker can be the best of both worlds: the laces can be adjusted for comfort & stability, and the zipper allows easy-on-easy-off access.

(Yes, these are spendy, but I’ve found Paul Green sneakers hard to beat for comfort, looks, and durability.)

Streamlined – $275

Velcro straps are another option that allows for ease and adjustability, and here’s an example of the style done right!

Though I haven’t yet tried this pair, I’ve always found Vince sneakers to be extremely comfortable and well-cushioned. They do tend to run 1/2 size large pretty consistently.

Travel-friendly Styles

Travel often involves hours on our feet on a variety of surfaces, so comfort, cushioning and support are essential. Though we may not always have to remove shoes through airport security these days (at least in US airports), I still prefer styles that can be slipped off and on without having to fuss with laces. Here are some side-zip and slip-on women’s sneakers that don’t sacrifice style for comfort.

Reader favorite brand – $170

Many of my readers have given Josef Siebel sneakers rave reviews, so wanted to include this slip-on style from the brand. Four colors available.

Josef Sibel slip-on sneakers for women in navy.
Blondo waterproof slip-on sneaker.

Waterproof! – $89.95

How fun are these from Blondo??? They’re well-reviewed and available in 3 solid colors as well as this leopard print.

The Featherweight Champ – $180

Though these are on the more casual side, they’re lightweight and a good choice for extended walking (or even light hiking). They seem to be a popular choice with Europeans for casual wear, at least by my observation. This particular style is also waterproof, and available in black and light mauve.

On Cloud 6 slip-on sneakers.
Fit Flop slip-on sneaker in light olive green.

Fun & funky – $91

FitFlop is another brand that many of my readers have raved about for comfort. I thought this Moss green was a fun and unusual choice, great for you Autumns!

Polished comfort – $295

I love the look of this slip-on sneaker from Veronica Bears and tried on recently. It’s quite comfortable and supportive, and available in several colors. Runs true-to-size.

Veronica Beard slip-on sneaker.
Clark's side zip women's sneaker.

Old-School kicks – $120

A classic low-top sneaker from Clark’s, a brand known for comfort and quality at a reasonable price. These are also available in black and navy.

    1. I second the Kiziks recommendation. The heels of the shoes really can handle squashing when you step in! They bounce right back. My royal blue ones get so many complements.

  1. My favorite sneakers that zip are Ecco Soft 7 — there’s a low-cut laces-with-zipper version and a higher-cut boot. I love both.

  2. I love the new sleek sneakers! As a size 10, I could never get into the huge chunky dad sneakers. I have to say though, to me at least, zippers on sneakers read very “old lady”.

    1. Hi Mary Alice, I think it really depends on the overall style of the sneaker. But a request: can we retire the term “old lady” used in a disparaging way? It’s quite ageist. Thanks!

  3. Because of my super-high insteps and arches, I can’t wear flat shoes of any kind. I’ve had the most sneaker success with Mephisto Mobils (the company’s wider-last sub-brand) in styles like the Patrizia and the Abby, which have 1.25-inch wedge heels and side zippers and come in sophisticated color combinations. In the past I’ve ordered directly from European retailers like Mephisto Bordeaux and saved a lot of money even with shipping charges; as of today it looks like tariffs haven’t yet affected overall costs. It’s also worth searching eBay for “new without box” styles.

  4. Hi Susan,
I am an autumn and I have the wander weight vest from Lands End in Rich ginger brown … perfect.
I’d also like to get same item in the color Woodland Forest. Do you think this works for an autumn ? Thanks

  5. The Dutch tend to have a little different taste in sneakers than for instance the UK. And certainly than the Americans. All good.

  6. I bought OnClouds in Oxford a few years ago out of necessity – I broke my little toe on a doorstop at the B&B we were staying at (which was silver and blended in with the white painted floors). My shoes had a narrow toe-box, and my other two pair of shoes were at my friends’ place in London. After I hobbled a mile+ to meet my friends for a cruise on the Thames, I said thru gritted teeth, “After this, I need two things: coffee and breakfast, and then we need to go buy a pair of shoes or I will be MISERABLE for the rest of the day.”

We went to a place called Sweaty Betty’s and found these – in black. I still wear them. Love them!
