A Spring Grab Bag: Neutrals, Scarves & Save the Date
March has arrived, and with it the promise of longer days and that unmistakable feeling that things are stirring — in the garden, in my closet, in my to-do list. I’ve been slowly making my way through a backlog of projects (aren’t we all?), and in between I’ve been tucking away little discoveries that felt too good not to share. Consider this a bit of a grab bag — some things that caught my eye, sparked an idea, or simply made me smile. Pull up a chair.
A Spring Outfit in Warm Neutrals
This cute cotton crochet top was the inspiration and starting point for a neutral spring outfit…
I love the elegance and simplicity of neutral and tonal looks. Here I’ve mixed textures to keep it interesting. (That 100% cotton striped top is also available in a cool pinky red stripe, which looks good for you Winters.) If the weather is still cool, add a lightweight blazer or jacket. Once it warms up, swap out the closed shoes for sandals.
Silk Scarves That Are Actually Easy to Wear
Silk scarves are one of this spring’s big accessory trends. Some of you have mentioned that you like the idea of silk scarves, but find standard carrés too large and unwieldy. So I’ve been keeping my eyes open for smaller options.
These silk bandanas are smaller (usually around 20″ x 20″) and easy to wear around the neck, as a head scarf, or tied to the handle of your bag. Most of these above are available in multiple colorways. (I have that middle one, and it goes with everything!)
If you prefer cotton to silk, these organic cotton bandanas from Madewell are a favorite. I also really like these fun “souvenir” bandanas from Alex Mill!
Here’s a one of my favorite ways to wear these smaller scarves:
Coming to Los Angeles: Red Leopard Color Event, May 2026

We’re planning another Red Leopard Color Event in Los Angeles! Manina will be coming from London for 4 days of color and style, May 21-24 in Century City. We just finalized the dates, so I’ll be setting up the schedule soon, and will let you know as soon as it’s open to book. We always have SUCH fun at this event, so if you’ve been considering a Personal Color Analysis, I hope you’ll join us!
And that’s a wrap on today’s miscellany! As always, thank you for pulling up a chair — it means more than you know. See you back here soon.

That’s a lovely spring outfit in neutrals, Susan. Everything is so tonal in your outfit. How do we reproduce for a winter so it’s a complete tonal outfit for us? I need help.
Hi Rose, thanks! I’ll do a Winter version soon. In the meantime, think white & shades of grey or silver.
Lovely spring look Susan! I think we are all ready for it. Would the ecru jeans work for a soft summer palette? I like off white or soft white jeans. The scarves are great also. I have seen another brand called Hanker that make bandannas. Very cute! Best of luck with Red Leopard in LA. Should be a fun filled event. I bet Manina is a lot of fun!
Hi Marg, thanks and yes, a soft white or ecru can work for Summers, you just want to avoid a very yellowed shade.
I love scarfs, and bandanas too! I have some that belonged to my Grandmother, and my Mom. In their honor, I look for Vera, Marimekko, and Echo brand scarves in thrift and vintage stores.
I have two Japanese Kodue Hibino cotton scarves that are favorites. Not easy to find in the US. Very artistic!
I went down a rabbit hole a bit, just now. I came upon this brand, which I’m very tempted by. https://headingprints.com/pages/bandanas
Thanks for the link. Those are some nice patterns.
Hi Susan,
