Stylish stripes to wear now and later…
There’s just something about stripes…to me they always feel both classic and modern. A striped sweater can add interest to a simple outfit without being too attention-grabbing, which makes it a great option for those who are print-averse. And for those who aren’t, stripes mix well with other patterns too. 😉

Though stripes are more prevalent in some seasons/years than others, they never really go out of style. I’ve been spotting so many good striped pieces lately! Here are a few of my picks.
Striped sweaters & tops
A simple cardigan like this one gives you more styling options than a pullover. I like the pockets on this one! It’s made from extra fine merino wool, so could be a good travel option. (Also available in navy with ivory stripes.)
This cardigan’s from Vince so it’s a little more spendy, but is something you could wear year after year. It’s a wool-cashmere blend. Sizes XS-XL, also available in Plus HERE. (It looks black above, but color is dark navy.)
If you’re wary of horizontal stripes, here’s an interesting option in a v-neck with a flattering diagonal/chevron stripe pattern. Sizes XS-XL, and other colors too.
Here’s a wool-free cotton-blend split-neck sweater in navy. Available in Misses, Petite, Tall and Plus.
All-over stripes not your thing? Here’s a more subtle way to go…
And if just a suggestion of stripes is more your speed, this space-dye sweater may interest. Sizes XX-Small to XX-Large.
Striped tees with a v-neck aren’t always easy to find. This one’s 100% pima cotton, available in sizes 00(0/2) to 4(20/22).
Vertical stripes are often much easier to find in blouses and tops. If you have a warm-weather get-away planned, or are just dreaming of warmer days ahead, this no-iron linen top is worth a look. Sizes 00 (0/2) TO 4 (20/22).
This Isabel Marant Étoile striped top is marked down like crazy in the Net-a-Porter sale.

Prefer your stripes in smaller doses? Here are some fun options…
This fringed striped scarf has lots of pretty cool colors, is wool-free, and currently on sale!
Ok, I’m kind of losing my mind over these striped needlepoint flats with the lobster & crab! 🦞 🦀
Just a perfect little day bag…
And this woven jute tote reminds me of something you’d see in a French market…

Love the ivory and navy cardigan. Ivory happens to be a base color for me this winter. I’ve been going monochrome with it or adding navy, olive, or a pale pink. I have the split-neck Lands End sweater too. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the lobster/crab shoes!
What an interesting roundup of striped tops and accessories! Thank you Susan!
Been looking for black jeans but I don’t like the button up style. Any suggestions for a zip alternative?
Thanks for all of your work!
Hi Jill, thanks! You might want to take a look at J.Crew…they have several styles in black and charcoal (and on sale). Here’s one: https://bit.ly/3Fll6R4
I have good luck with Talbots and currently enjoy wearing my black slim ankle jeans. https://www.talbots.com/search?q=BlAck+slim+ankle+jeans&lang=default
What a terrific selection of stripes! Love the range of colors, too. And thanks for that link to the black J.Crew jeans in reply to Jill. They look like exactly what I’ve been seeking as well.
A great collection, Susan! I have to admit I more enjoy YOUR own personal outfits, since I follow the same color schemes with my own wardrobe. However I realize seeing different capsules is important. We are making a second trip to Paris with friends in September. I was trying to locate where you have enjoyed staying in Paris, on your website, but cannot seem to locate that information. Is this too personal to ask of you? Thank you.
Hi Holly, thank you! Here’s a post I put together a while back, and have been meaning to update. Paris City Guide: Hotels Most recently, we stayed at Hotel d’Aubusson and really liked it. Great location, lovely accommodations, and very helpful staff!
Those crab shoes are so Maryland! 😀
That sweater with the striped-y sleeves just brought back a memory of when I got a job at Target back in 19xx. The store had just opened and there was a sweater very much like that – I think it was brown – and I just remember falling in love with that sweater when I walked in to the store for my job interview and thinking, “If I get this job, I’m buying that sweater.”
I did and I did.
Heh, heh, heh…I understand you so well, losing your mind over those lobster and crab flats haha.
