Stripes for Summer: Classic Looks with a Modern Twist

There’s just something so timeless about stripes. From classic Breton stripes to modern interpretations, they’re an easy way to add pattern and visual interest to summer outfits. Whether you’re packing for a getaway or just looking to freshen up your warm-weather wardrobe, stripes offer that perfect balance of effortless chic and versatility. They pair beautifully with everything from denim to linen, and work just as well at brunch with friends as they do on a casual stroll through a seaside town.

Stripes can be easy to style, even for those who are pattern averse. And if you do like to mix patterns, they can be a great starting point. (Stripes + leopard print is one of my favorite combos!) And I’ll always associate stripes with classic French style, another reason to love them!

It’s hard to go wrong with stripes in summer, whether it’s a breezy oversized shirt, or a favorite accessory. Here are a few more striped summer goodies that caught my eye…

Whether you want to channel the laid-back elegance of the South of France or just infuse your everyday looks with a bit of joie de vivre, stripes are a summer style staple that never feels overdone. From breezy tops to scarves and easy accessories, there’s no shortage of ways to make this classic pattern your own. Are you a fan of stripes in your summer wardrobe? I’d love to hear how you style them!

  1. Stripes always look fresh and cool and love the pink version you have on,

I’m also very keen to know about the green wide leg pants and tan sandals on the home page, next to “shop” but can’t work out how to find a link to them! Thought I’d ask…

  2. I love stripes. On other people! A striped Breton shirt looks chic on so many women, and a striped tee or dress looks fab at the seaside, but I always feel like a little girl when I try to wear them. Oh well. That pink striped tee looks chic on you!

  3. When I packed for a vacation last year I realized that every top that I brought was a stripe, so yes, I must really like stripes!

  4. I am a fan of the Breton striped tee and sweater year round! I always feel polished wearing one with denim or white, as well as navy pants or skirts.

  5. Susan,
I love the pink striped cashmere sweater on you! The whole outfit is lovely- chic, and fresh for summer. The bandana is a such a pretty addition.
I adore stripes and own many (sometimes I think too many!) long sleeve tees, short sleeve tees, and a blue and white striped Lauren shirtdress in linen that is comfortable and easy for summer.
I don’t usually wear a scarf with the tees but you’ve given me inspiration to do so!

  6. The outfit with the pink striped top is top notch. Love it. Trousers are great too. And with the little Bandana…very French.

  7. I love stripes. It just adds something to a simple outfit. I always think a striped top dresses up jeans.
