Stylish Spring Capsule Wardrobe in Cool Colors
Whether you’re planning to travel, or just want to streamline getting dressed in the morning, a capsule wardrobe can be a great tool and starting point. Many of you have asked for a spring-to-early-summer capsule in a cool color palette. So I’ve put together a simple, casual capsule for transitional season wear.
A capsule wardrobe can reduce decision fatigue, and help you hone your personal style. If you’re rebuilding your wardrobe, it can be a good way to prioritize your purchases. But you can also create seasonal capsules from what’s already in your closet, as I did here.
12-piece casual spring capsule wardrobe in a cool palette
For those of you with cool color palettes (Winters & Summers), here’s a casual 12-piece capsule in navy, white, blue, and pink. Blue and white is a perennial combination that’s also on-trend this spring. There are so many good pieces to choose from, and I had a hard time narrowing down this capsule!

2nd row: CARDIGAN | BLOUSE | JOHNNY COLLAR TOP | CARDIGAN
3rd row: BLUE JEANS | WHITE JEANS | PANTS | SKIRT
4th row: SNEAKERS | SANDALS | BOAT SHOES
In the example above, I’ve selected these twelve pieces that can work for variable temperatures and a casual lifestyle. By keeping the palette limited, the pieces work well together, and can be worn in multiple combinations. I’ve kept the styles simple for the purposes of illustration. You can always include items in your own capsule that express your personality and suit your lifestyle. And accessories can do a lot of heavy lifting to add variety.
🌸 *Summers: if that pink cardigan is too bright for you, here’s one in a rose pink. And this one in Lilac would also work with this set.

Remember that a capsule wardrobe is a starting point for putting outfits together, and you don’t have to limit yourself to just 12 pieces. But with a well-chosen and cohesive capsule, you could probably create dozens of different looks.
Yes, those Frank & Eileen Mini-Belfast jackets are spendy, but I think they’re worth every penny! They are comfortable, easy to style, they hold up well, and can be machine washed and dried. I wear mine almost on a daily basis. But for those looking for a more budget-friendly option, here’s a similar style.

Refine your wardrobe with a color-coordinated capsule
As you can see, a coordinated capsule can be a great starting point for creating outfits and building a cohesive wardrobe. Let me know what you think of this capsule, and whether it’s helpful. What colors would you start with to build your spring capsule wardrobe?

Thank you!
This capsule wardrobe is perfect, as I am a winter. Plan on saving it to refer to when the NYC temps eventually stay around 60 degrees.
Thanks, Cynthia!
Susan,
I love this selection. These are my colors. While I have several similar pieces, I haven’t incorporated the pink into the selection and I really like the look.
Over the years, you have helped me hone my packing skills and I’ve gotten so much better. I even do the evaluation when I get home.
I love your blog and your guidance
Jane
Thanks very much, Jane! I’m so glad to know it’s been helpful.
Could a “spring” wear the navy F and E jacket with off white or a color under it? Also, if I find a striped navy top with off white rather than white, will that work for a spring? Thank you
Hi Barb, even though this is a slightly darker navy, I think many Springs could wear it with a lighter/brighter top underneath. And yes, a cream or ivory and navy stripe top will work for a Spring. (Here’s one from Saint James: ivory/navy Breton top )
This is fantastic! It really would cover a variety of temperatures and occasions.
Thanks so much, Susan!
I love the hot pink! I am an autumn, I have one long/tunic hot pink cottony sleeveless vest/like with black narrow stripes and black buttons. I am not ready to donate this fairly new item since it is so comfy. Any style tips to salvage it for my wear?
Hi Mudra, without knowing what else you have in your wardrobe, my suggestion would be to find a scarf that has mostly Autumn colors but a little bit of pink to coordinate with the vest. That way you can still get your best colors near your face.
As I transition to spring summer, I will keep this post in mind. I love all the pieces!
Thanks, Kathy!
Probably not the place to post this, I need ideas for a smart casual spring office party.
Great post! I’m thinking right now about what to pack for ten days in Paris/London next month and this will help; though I’m going to be using other colors (for example, black instead of navy) this gives me a good template to work from.
FYI you’ve been a huge influence in the way I dress! Though we have different style profiles, I’ve come to think of my wardrobe as a series of capsules like those you are always presenting to us readers. This means that what I buy complements what I already have, and because of this it expands my wardrobe. This also makes packing really easy! I used to make the mistake of shopping before trips but now, thanks to your guidance, I just need to go ‘shopping’ in my closet for what I need. Thank you!
Thanks so much, Debra. I’m so glad to hear it!
