Spring into Style With These Beautiful Jackets
With spring’s milder days, outings call for jackets that embody a perfect blend of laid-back comfort and a hint of structure. I’m looking forward to some upcoming events (whether it’s a birthday bash or a brunch with friends) and find it’s always handy to have some outfits in mind that feel effortlessly styled. Today I’m sharing some spring jackets for women that are the perfect outfit “completer.”
Today I want to focus on some go-to jackets that I LOVE. The first word that comes to mind is: lightweight. Light and bright, right? In spring, the jacket feels more like an accessory than a necessity – just to catch that last of the seasonal chill. Let’s take a look at some of my top picks:
Linen & linen-blend jackets

Banana Republic Arcata Tencel-Linen Shirt
The color of this Banana Republic Jacket is called “Vanilla Custard” and I think it’s just delectably chic. I love this relaxed utility jacket, and the material is made from a beautiful Italian fabric. Portofino this Summer? Yes, please!
Madewell Cropped Blazer in 100% Linen
This cropped blazer from Madewell reminds me of the warmth of Citrine (my favorite stone!) and I love this Spring color. The jacket is 100% linen, and I’m wearing a regular size Small. This statement color is an outfit-maker, but it’s also available in white.

Bella Dahl Utility Crop Linen Jacket
If a feather were a jacket, this could be it! A linen blend utility jacket at its absolute finest. This casual crop has immaculate construction for a material that’s so lightweight. I think this shorter length would look great with floaty spring dresses or full skirts.
Sweater jackets, lady jackets
J.Crew Juliette Collarless Sweater-Blazer
In France, kids call their favorite blankie “Doudou” and I think that’s the best way to describe this J.Crew Sweater-Blazer mix. The blend of cotton and merino wool will have you never taking this off. Indoors or Outdoors. Trust me, even adults need a Doudou! Oh, and it’s marked down by 31% RIGHT NOW!

Chico’s Balloon Sleeve Faux Leather Jacket
Let’s look at a jacket that’s more sophisticated and tailored. I’m obsessed with Chico’s Balloon Sleeve Jacket. The leather may be faux to make it more lightweight, but it’s fauxTASTIC! There’s an option between Regular or Petite sizes and the color is BRIOCHE!? Just modern French and fabulous!
This jacket is like an homage to Jackie Kennedy in her childhood summer house, Lasata (fun fact: the estate was recently bought by Tom Ford!). The versatility of this merino wool cardigan is that one can dress it up, or pair it down. I love throwing it over some modern jeans with gold accessories. Modern, and timeless.

A more refined denim jacket

Frank & Eileen Dublin Tailored Blazer
Frank & Eileen have outdone themselves with this classic white tailored blazer in Performance Denim. It’s the perfect balance of polished and laid-back. They describe the denim as stretch-kissed and Italian. Sounds like a “Spring Fling” if you ask me!
Sporty chic jackets
I have to highlight two NEW jackets that I recently spotted on J.Crew, because they’re both good looking and practical…(both are machine washable!)
J.Crew Collection Lightweight Bomber Jacket
This heritage-inspired bomber, with polished gold-crest buttons deserves to be sailed on the high seas! It inspires outfit ideas for a South of France pique-nique à la plage, or a Cape Cod boardwalk. Would you agree?

J.Crew Barn Jacket in Crinkle Nylon
If Navy isn’t your color, you could grab this Toasted Cream utility style jacket, with gold detailing and a corduroy collar. If Spring were a modern jacket, this is it right here!
We love a season where it’s not too hot, and not too cold. This is the perfect time for your lightweight jackets to shine!

Lots of great looks here, but what I really like is the format with the text beside the image, so much easier to follow. Love the ‘doudou’ idea.
Thanks for the feedback! I’ll continue to use this format going forward.
I agree with Diane B — love the format of this post. Glad to know its here to stay. Love the options for jackets, too!!
Great post, Susan! Love these jackets! Can you please share where you got the crochet top that you paired with the BR linen jacket? Thank you!
Hi Margaret, the crochet top is a couple of years old, originally from Everlane. Here’s a similar style: https://bit.ly/3QMscGN
Yes, your new format is great!
I ordered the longer ‘doudou’ jacket from J. Crew. I hope to get a lot of wear out of it. The Madewell jacket is stunning: the orange looks fantastic on you. I liked the look of both J Crew jackets, but like most of the new collection, they seem both really trendy and also impractical. Clearly I’m not the target demographic LOL.
I love the Madewell linen blazer, and wonder if the color is more of an autumn brick/orange or spring terracotta/poppy? I’m an autumn (thank you, Annie) and cannot tell from the pictures. Love all of the options!
Thanks! It’s definitely more in the terra cotta end of the range.
Hi- what size are you wearing in the first one, Banana Republic….and in the photo is looks like a butter yellow color. Is it more off white or yellow? Thank you!
Hi Elizabeth, it’s a very pale butter yellow.
I love the Banana Republic Jacket in “Vanilla Custard.” Is this a pale yellow (summer palette) or more ivory/cream?
You chose really cute jackets but I’m finding it hard to find “Summer” colors other than navy! (I know these are your choices in your palette.)
It’s a pale yellow, a little warmer than Summer’s “Primrose.” I think the BR color “Iced Vanilla” is a better one for Summers. Here’s a cute shirt that could be worn open as a topper as well: https://bit.ly/3WD9jd5
Love your blog! Here in Portland we always need to think of a jacket to go with every outfit. Can you tell me what size you’re wearing in the Betty cardigan by Sezane? Did you size up so it can be worn as a jacket? Thank you!
Hi Claire, thanks! I’m wearing a size Small in the Sezane jacket, which is a good fit either worn open or closed.
I love all your jackets, but especially the orange/red Madewell jacket and the balloon sleeve jacket.

Hi Susan
Brioche AND balloons? I hope you kept it!
Thanks for all your amazing ideas.
Best wishes

Lightweight jackets….a great subject. They are hard to find. I just need something to cut the a/c in most places all summer, some jean jackets are too much. When I go outside, I need to remove it. This usually leaves me wearing just a plain tee shirt. I would love to find tees with some sort of interest on the front….lace, embroidery, tucks, etc. That crocheted top you are wearing look great but I can’t do the tank if I’m going to remove the jacket. I like the side by side also…..look at the photo while reading.
