A Summer Garden Refresh - une femme d'un certain âge

Dans le jardin…

Trumpet vine bloom. More at une femme d'un certain age.

This is the time of year I often find myself in the Style Doldrums. And this summer…I’m feeling it even more acutely. I’m more in a mood to clear our and winnow down than to acquire, and have been on a big organizing spree the last couple of days.

A Summer Garden Refresh

New pixie lavender planting. More at une femme d'un certain age.

But I’ve also been enjoying spending time in our garden. We’re in the process of refreshing some of the plants. These new plantings always make happy to look at…they’re like eager little puppies.

Colorful succulents in containers. More at une femme d'un certain age.

We’re also updating a couple of our large containers with some interesting succulents. Still figuring out what will go where, but I’ll share some photos once everything’s done.

Rainbow glass windchimes. More garden inspiration at une femme d'un certain age.

This is also the time of year I usually give myself a little blogging break. Now seems like a good time. I’ll post if something inspires me, and may “encore” some of your favorites, but otherwise will be en vacances until early August or so.

How are you giving yourself a break this summer?

Have a wonderful break…and know that you will be missed! I have been downsizing my wardrobe too, but will be passing by our newly reopened Chico’s later today…hmm.

We don’t have Chico’s up here. Probably just as well, as I’m trying to avoid fast fashion. Have a wonderful summer; will you be travelling anywhere (nearby)? I do love your additions to the garden – my garden is two balconies (herbs and flowers).

Hi Lagatta, I don’t consider Chico’s “fast fashion.” They don’t produce in the quantities or with the turnaound time of a Zara, for example. The quality is generally better, too.

Enjoy a much needed break! Sorry we aren’t all able to travel to get away but we do what we must to keep sane and happy. Personally, I hope there is a puppy in your near future! Perfect time to get one! I love my boy and he’s been a great soulmate for me.

Oh gosh holiday, taking a break from blogging, I have never done that. Then again I only post once a week. But a lengthy one haha.

Girl, take a break; you work SO hard for us & we really appreciate it! You have taught me that color is your friend; I was going to go to Red Leppard in October but alas the best laid plans………… But, it forced me to seek out what colors I am (I can’t wait until maybe in 2 years to go to RL, I miss London SO much!) & I am enjoying my journey with color.

Enjoy your break and take some time to just do ‘you’. I will miss the girl chat, but when you are back it will be all the sweeter. I love the glass windchimes you pictured and may have to look into something like those. All the best to you and your family on this break. My yard and flowers are my life savers in all this.

Before you go, I have a small question.
In one of today’s photos, you show an urn at the edge. Is it concrete/stone or one of the lightweight faux stone urns? I ask because I’m looking into them at the moment & would appreciate any insights. What are your thoughts on it?
    Thanks & enjoy your respite!

Hi Florence, it’s one of the lightweight faux stone ones. We like it because we can move it around easily.

Thank you. I’ve been going back & forth on the plusses & minuses of both, as well as the cost.
        I appreciate your comment.

        Enjoy!

Wishing you “bons vacances” – we finally are at our island home and so happy to just drink in the ocean air/enjoy the quiet (until the neighbours’ deck construction project resumes!)

Will look forward to “le retour”.

Hmm – strictly (I have found the French are strict about these things), I should have said “I look forward to “la rentrée”.

  23. July 17, 2020 / 1:13 pm

Will miss your writings for the next couple of weeks. Enjoy your time off with your family and your beautiful garden. I agree, now just might be a good time a new puppy. Life without a fur baby is empty. Bons vacances!
