The Beauty Beat: SPF And Then Some…

It Cosmetics "Your Skin But Better" CC Cream SPF 50

I’m always looking to save a step or two in my morning routine. Here’s another wonderful multitasking product that has everything you do want and nothing you don’t. It Cosmetics “Your Skin But Better” CC Cream with SPF 50 provides both a mineral-based sunscreen (great for sensitive skin) and a bit more pigment/color correction than a tinted moisturizer. It reduces the appearance of redness without looking like you’re wearing a lot of makeup. This is a great option for those days when foundation feels like too much, but you still need a little coverage. What I like most about this is that you can reapply your sunscreen if needed every few hours without messing up your foundation!

I like this – I’m using a Maybelline CC cream now but it’s a little too oily. xox

The snail secretion filtrate is what would stop me from buying this. It’s the first inactive ingredient listed. No snail slime for me, thank you. 🙂

I was recently given a sample of Revision Skincare’s Intellishade–a tinted 45spf moisturizer. I’m trying it for the first time today. It comes in two finishes–regular and matte. Today I am trying regular. It is supposed to blend with any skin color. I can say that it certainly blended with my skin tone which is very light.

I’m all for easy, one-step products like this. Currently I use the Shiseido Urban Environment tinted sunscreen and like it, but I’m always looking to see what’s new out there. I wonder how water resistant this one is?
Also, what’s the objection to snail secretion filtrate?

I have to use mineral based sunscreens because of sensitive skin and they are a pita. Will have to look for this one. Thanks.

Miracle Skin Transformer (don’t you love that name) by Sarah McNamara is also a great light product for spy and a bit of coverage.

I’ll have to look into this one. Thanks for the rec! For other tinted sunblocks*, I suggest MDSolarSciences Mineral Tinted Creme SPF 30 Broad Spectrum (1 shade) for oily skin and Suntegrity 5-in-1 BB Cream SPF 30 Tinted Moisturizing Facial Sunscreen for dry skin (5 shades).

*I refer to sunscreens with only physical blockers (TiO2, ZnO) as sunblocks, and sunscreens with chemical absorbents as sunscreens.

    Bettina: Snail secretion??
BB and CC creams feel thick and uncomfortable on my face. I know it is a function of the physical sunblock, but I feel smothered. I’ve about given up on facial suncreen–I know it’s a sinful admission these days.

Yes, click on Deja Pseu’s link, or Google the product name, and check out the ingredients list. I’m sure it’s purified and all, but still ….

I can’t wear BB/CC creams either. I’d rather wear a very light, non-greasy sunscreen, and then a foundation which matches my skin perfectly and has the texture and finish that I want. In the summer, I don’t wear foundation at all, just a tinted finishing powder.

My favorite sunscreen is La Roche Posay’s Anthelios Ultra-Light SPF 60. (Not the mineral one, but the chemical one.) Mineral sunscreens, no matter how light, always leave a white cast on my skin. The Anthelios Ultra-Light just feels like a very light moisturizer.

Another good one which is not excessively thick or shiny and which does not clog pores is Olay Regenerist Lotion SPF 50. It’s basically a serum with sunscreen in it.

I don’t kow what to think any more, especially after reading a lengthy article on why “more is more” in the way of a skin care regimen. The article posits we should start w/ a serum, add moisturizer (preferably one w/ Vit C), then sunscreen, then a BB or CC or foundation cream. The article says you can’t overdo on your skin. I think they even recommend facial oil for women w/ dry skin.

    What do you think Pseu?

California Girl, I take it all with a grain of salt! 🙂 For me, moisture and SPF are the bare minimum. I’ve recently begun using Skinceuticals Ferulic C E serum on recommendations from a variety of sources. I use both an oil (the L’Oreal one) and moisturizer at night usually but we also have a dry climate here. For every person who says “use everything” there’s another who says “CeRaVe and sunscreen.” I think you just have to experiment until you find which and how many products seem to make your skin look and feel best.

I adore the IT Cosmetics CC Cream! I can only use physical sunscreen as the chemical ones make me break out and this is my favorite. I use one of their brushes to apply it and the finish is lovely. I need to apply a moisturizer under it so it glides on and stays. I tried quite a few BB creams and tinted moisturizers; but since I’m super fair, I had difficulty finding a good color. The Fair in this CC is perfect for me.
