There’s no place like…

Une femme has some questions for the universe:

1. Why does unpacking take so much longer than packing?
2. How did all those random dirty clothes get stuffed into hidden corners of the suitcase?
3. Did we really wear all of those clothes I’m now washing?

We returned home last night, and as you may have guessed, I’m in getting-our-stuff-back-in-order mode. Will have more jackets for you next week, as well as some thoughts on why we care about (and blog about) all of this trivial (!?) style stuff.

  1. Yes, and there can be no hesitation about unpacking — I know this from experience and to my chagrin. No matter how tired one is, how desirous of that cup of tea and feet up, one must nevertheless NOT leave the suitcase, still closed, at the top of the stairs where hubby as hauled it, because those clothes might still be in there tomorrow afternoon after one has rushed about doing catch-up errands and they’re NOT going to get any fresher on their own!
Welcome back! (altho’ you were so good about keeping up your blog that we scarcely missed you)

  2. Unpacking is done, and laundry almost complete. Alas, no purchases this trip; we went to visit family and spent most of the time dropping by to see aunts, uncles and cousins, or having them drop by to see us.

  3. Because the enthusiasm that propelled the trip is gone. The thing is that you always feel so much better once unpacked and the suitcases put away, then you can play with your new purchases.

  4. Three weeks after the trip, I realize I left a bra behind in NYC. As it was one of my precious Marks and Spencer bras, this is as bad as leaving my heart in San Francisco.

  5. All those clothes? That’s because it’s very hard to get a husband and kid to wear only black matter jersey.

Welcome back and hope you had a pleasant trip.

  6. arabella – bummer!

duchesse – ah, so it’s not just my husband who consistently overpacks? Five days? Ten shirts, six pair of pants/shorts, etc. Though I used the Eagle Creek packing envelope on most of his stuff this time, and rolled the rest. It really did save a lot of space.
