This says it all…

Ann Miller working those gams. Pretty great dance number!

While a good portion of the Northern Hemisphere is beginning to ease into fall, we’re just hitting our warmest time of the year here in Los Angeles. The humidity levels are in single digits; my skin feels like parchment and without almost hourly application of lotion takes on that dessicated, reptilian look. It’s also brush fire season due to the dry Santa Ana winds. It’s a nerve-wracking time, especially for those who live in the hills and canyons.  As we do every year, we’ll have to ride out this dry heat until sometime in October or even November, when the jet stream shifts and starts to bring some cool, moist weather our way.

  1. This is amazing. Although I am a ballroom dancer, I love all things dance and thank you for this wonderful dancer and song. I had forgotten about the lovely dancer Ann Miller.

  2. I don’t know if you have a lotion that helps you through this season, but I have similar problems and I found one called Amlactin that works quite well for me.

I don’t sell it and the manufacturer hasn’t sent me a case of it. (I wish!)

  3. Im a classic movie maven myself and just love all the old glamour!
Heard about the heat–my son is in San Diego and at his office in the mtns it was 110. It was 48 here on Monday ….
    I’m over at instagram for now–miss you–Paula

  4. I love Ann Miller’s numbers – what a great dame. Sorry you’re suffering in the dry hat – we’re wilting in the humid heat, but not in danger of fire.

  5. Such fun, thanks! It’s hard to imagine serious and sustained heat at this time of year (well, let’s be honest, even in summer here!) and yes, I share some of the envy expressed by other commenters. But honestly, I know I couldn’t handle it being Too. Darn. Hot. Hope you find some cooling solace in your garden — under the sprinkler? (or are you under serious water restrictions?)

  6. Another record-breaking 107 F in Pasadena, CA today. Ann Miller had a “real woman’s” body–don’t we wish this was still in fashion! Thanks, Pseu.

  7. Well stay cool! (The hot temperatures where I am have given way to something much more pleasant in the past two weeks. This is truly one of my favorite times of year.)

Now about that dancing… I may need to stretch a little, and see if I can still move this weary bod to a bit of music…

    🙂

  8. Wow, Ann Miller was such an incredibly talented woman – dancing, singing, acting, and what a bod. I hope the fires stay away. It’s hard to believe that you’ll be in this heat until as late as November. At least you always look cool.

  9. I cannot tell you how much it pleases me to find someone who loves videos like this. I just came in from running errands with Seriously Sinatra on the radio. I love these old dance numbers!! Thanks for sharing….oh, and our heat will return before it is over completely. I just love what we have right now and wish it would stay awhile!

    1. @Janey, that’s my bugaboo too. I really struggle to dress stylishly in the heat, but I’ll see if I can cobble together some ideas for you. Look for a post next week.
