Change of tack for a moment. This Eileen Fisher asymetric zip felted cardigan is captial-F-abulous: flattering fit, interesting design and details, and a great price at Nordstroms during their anniversary sale, $149.90. Available in charcoal grey and “Niagra,” a soft blue. Click on the zoom to see the details. This is definitely a Paris-worthy piece, especially in the grey.

  1. Yes, please! One of those pieces I’d wear all the time. EF have sat up and noticed women want more fit, their pieces are no longer “stacked rectangles”. Good for them. I also admire them for making the same clothes (and fabrics) in misses and woman’sizing.

  2. metscan – it even looks good on short, curvy me!

Duchesse – yes, I’ve been giving EF a second look and am really liking what I see (mostly). I’ve always loved their silk jersey pieces, but have folded down the corners of several pages in their fall catalog to check out once the items hit the stores. I’m seeing lots of contouring seaming.

LPC – I could so picture you in the blue version!

  3. Okay, I hate to be a dissenter, and I won’t be, quite — I love the look of this jacket/cardigan and can easily imagine wearing it all the time. The problem I would have — and already have with another cardigan, also nicely-fitted, more panache than the usual cardi, similar weight wool — is what to wear underneath that will look equally flattering when I — inevitably! — take it off as I hit a patch of warmth during my day, whether that be internally or externally inflicted (for the record, I have very few hot flashes, most of them at night, but one lives in alert readiness!)?

I shouldn’t single out this cardi, which is fabulous, but I have become leary of relying on my top layer — am I the only one? Have the rest of you sorted out solutions?

  4. Agreed. It does look great! So many times, everything looks good on a model. This one should be seen and tried on in person.

  5. Bonjour, Pseu-

Any French-inspired or otherwise new and interesting bags for fall? I’m desperately hunting a fall shoulder bag and can’t quite find The Grail.

    Votre pensees?
    C.

  6. I love the cardi/jacket. That fits in with my soft/yet strict style perfectly. Alas, Eileen Fisher doesn’t make items in petite XL which is the size I need. This seems to often be my fashion story.

  7. Love everything about this except the color choices. Ugh. If it were more of a navy I would own this already.

It would be something I’d wear to death if it was in a deep brown or dark Raisin/plum color.

    Grrrr….

  8. Hostess – thanks, actually I’m not much for blue…love it on other people, not on me unless it’s a dark navy.

Aunt Snow – I’ve seen some felted or boiled wools that are rather stiff and scratchy, but this one is wonderfully soft and pliant.

materfamilias – I get where you’re coming from, definitely. If I were wearing with a plain tee or tank underneath, I might throw on a scarf or an interesting necklace. There’s also this embellished tank

which is quite pretty and looks good on, or one of those Suva printed tops…

Sal – I was really impressed with the styling on this piece. It’s not just another one of EF’s open front, shawl collar cardigans.

  9. WendyB – thanks!

C – I’ll admit, I’ve been mostly uninspired by bags recently.
🙁 I’m not sure what’s au courrant in Paris right now, maybe we can get A Femme d’un Certain Age (Tish) to weigh in? There is one Cole Haan bag I’m wanting to get a look at in person, and will post that one if I’m impressed.

Semi-Expat – oh that’s great that Talbot’s ships to you! Anything in particular you have your eye on?

  10. Laurie Ann – have you tried in the regular Misses size? I find that with some EF items, the Misses sizes work just fine for me.

hollarback – while charcoal grey is my favorite neutral, I’d also love to see this in those other colors you suggested!

  11. Thank you Pseu for the suggestion to try the Misses size XL. I decided to give it a chance and place and order.

  12. Oh my god. I like an Eileen Fischer garment. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO ME??! I’d better get away from the computer before I start contemplating purchasing a pair of Birkenstocks, letting my hair go long and gray, and wearing ankle length, formless skirts! AAAAHHHH!
