Une femme recommends…

this video from Harper’s Bazaar and NYDJ. I think they’ve put together some great Business Casual looks here that are simple but with a bit of flair. All of these would be appropriate for any age and I’d feel comfortable and well dressed wearing most of what’s shown here in our office. Though some of those “jackets” are more “outerwear” which would be removed once inside, and the heels shown might be a bit higher than what you (or I) would wear, it’s the simplicity and the combinations of shapes, textures and colors that inspire me.

Would you wear ensembles like this at your workplace?

  1. I’m not nuts about the advertorial quality of the video, but I appreciated Thursday’s styling. Intriguingly, they never use the brand’s full name (which, as you know, torments me). They only go by the acronym. Hmmm… Maybe they’re rethinking that bit of horrendous brand development. Those faux leather pants are very interesting – I’d love to touch them.

  2. I liked the animal skin flat shoes that they chose for a couple of the looks. The head to toe navy look intrigued me and I liked the azalea jeans with the black top and cream jacket. I can’t wear that cream, but I liked the combination and might try and figure it out with another combination.

  3. Love the teal cords and actually liked the red toned outfit. The leather-like pants were a bit too edgy for me. All the looks were styled very well. I would take a cue from them.

  4. Interesting combinations although I find the NYDJ jeans far too high in the waist for me but I really liked the leather jacket worn by one of the presenters. I wonder where it comes from. Have been looking for a biker type leather jacket that is not too tight and short. This one looked wonderful.

  5. I wonder if I’ll ever really like the look of a blouse hanging out 5 or 6 inches below the jacket. I know, that’s supposed to look casual, but dammit, I just don’t like it! That said, the NYDJ person had good speaking skills, she talked a little slower than you might in ordinary conversation. The other young woman was speaking too fast, especially in the beginning. Now to the outfits, I liked them all, except the mint green/cream/black combo didn’t seem pulled together. I did like the shoes that went with it. And I don’t care about the ankle-length jeans, most women want to visually lengthen their legs, why the “floods” look?

  6. Very enjoyable. I’ve been wondering about trying the look of the blouse hanging below the jacket. It looks great in the stylings pictured, but I’m not sure it works well on everyone’s shape. I wish the weather were cool enough here for some of these looks. I find I’m always removing jackets and cardigans.

  7. I like the outfits both of the women were wearing showing the outfits, far more than any of the combinations they showed.
But, I tend to like monochromatic and minimalist styling.

  8. Here is where our cultures clash.
Women over here, don´t wear clothes like the above in offices/ where they work.
Somehow, though well selected to work together, these outfits are dull, only my honest opinion.

  9. Love all these looks! That’s what I wear very often. A pair of jeans can be very stylish with a nice jacket (like the one they show at the end of the video)and high heels. It fits young and not so young women (I recently turned 50 and I still get compliments for my outfits). One personal recommmendation they didn’t mention: a beautiful silk scarf is a perfect complement to this look ! A nice handbag is an important plus too…
    All the best 🙂

  10. indeed, yes! i’ve been looking for a white mesh tank top or t-shirt, with wide gaps in it. so far NO SUCH LUCK. except i know Opening Ceremony carries one but i most certainly do not have Opening Ceremony money.. alas
