The Handbag Deities are smiling on us all.  For yea verily, Hayden-Harnett has brought back the Mercer Satchel, and is offering it in a dozen or so colors and leathers!!

Of all the bags I’ve owned in the last several years, the Mercer Satchel remains one of my all-time favorites for style, design and materials. With three compartments and smaller pockets inside the middle compartment, this bag is an organizational wizard.  The handles are comfortable on the shoulder or arm.

The size is perfect for an every day bag, the hardware subtle and unobtrusive, and there are no logos or branding aside from the removable luggage tag. At $348, it’s a splurge, but not an obscene one for a bag that you’ll want to carry every day.

Now for the tough part….which color would you choose??

  1. Merci beaucoup. I had never heard about this bag, or to be honest, the designer. WIll definitely look him up as some of these colors are simply to die for! A [French] girl can never have too many handbags, right? 🙂 Veronique (French Girl in Seattle)

  2. Wow, I love this bag! At this price, I would go for a classic color, beige, taupe, something like that…. Do you know how to get this bag in Europe?

  3. Hayden-Harnett *does* ship internationally via UPS. You can order via the website or try contacting them directly at [email protected] . I’ve contacted them to find out if there are any retail outlets in Europe or elsewhere that carry the bags. Will update with any information.

  4. Like the bag. Have spent all this morning in town looking for a good classic bag but they were all a fortune and covered in branded logos. Not my style. Don’t think they have that brand over here or I would buy a grey one.

  5. Oh my, I REALLY want one of these bags. I’d go for the Turks blue – wearable with both black and brown. Yup, that’s how I can justify it – no more changing bags necessary! And for those who think this bag is too small? There are others on the website.

  6. Cute bag, but I am with Kathy and Susan…I like minimal hardware and the size is too small for my liking (but I am very tall so I can get away with big bags). I do like that they come in so many different colors and that the price is reasonable. If I had to pick a shade it would be the brown/cognac. Cognac and any variation of cognac is my new favorite color.

    1. I agree. The Milton satchel is amazing. But now we’re talking beyond serious $$$$. I’d love to see one of these in “real” life.

  7. I love HH bags. I have this bag in it’s first incarnation too and it’s very “rock-star chic”. This updated version actually looks like it has a lot less bling (could be how they chose to photograph it)! 😀 It’s earlier colors were currant (kind of a dusty rose), black, dark brown, lighter brown leather (more akin to a suede jacket), bright green, white (!), and bright yellow. I love the green and the blue in this updated style!

I’m not sure if this is true for this version, but the leather on my older black Mercer was very supple – too much so, in fact. I had trouble keeping the bag upright and it melted in a pool of leather every time I sat it down. This could be a good thing for some folks, or a bad thing!
