Visible Monday: Pasty Legs And All

This is my first contribution to Patti’s “Visible Mondays” at Not Dead Yet Style.

I bit the bullet last week and went bare-legged. Nobody fainted.

Skirt:  Ann Taylor, here. LOVE this skirt!
Jacket: Eileen Fisher, from last year.
Tee: Banana Republic. I can see from this picture that it’s time to let this one go; it’s a bit stretched out and too big now.
Shoes: Stuart Weitzman, here. LOVE these shoes. They were a considerable splurge, but I knew right away I’d wear the heck out of them and have found past Stuart Weitzman purchases to be some of my best with regard to cost-per-wear and overall satisfaction. They are exceptionally comfortable, and look great with almost everything in my closet!
Bracelet: Ann Taylor, here.
Necklaces: Ann Taylor, here, and Chanel.  The AT jewelry was 40% off when I visited their store, and right now they’re offering 40% off *everything* and free shipping over $150.

  1. You look summer-chic and your jacket fits so well,!Suggest you re-frame “pasty” to “pretty”. There is nothing wrong with skin being skin-coloured.

  2. Lovely and professional! Don’t sweat the legs. I figure if folks think my legs will magically be tanned whilst my face is porcelain #1, that’s not my problem. If your bag and shoes match, why not your face and legs?

  3. you should go bare-legged more often. looks great to me!
my legs are also pasty white. i’m not a tanner but i find myself lately trying to get my legs the same color as my upper body, by wearing short skirts and shorts more often. so far, nothing has helped, and i refuse to lie in the sun, lol!

  4. You always look so classy. Your legs don’t look pasty white at all, they look natural and healthy.

  5. Pseu, your legs look fantastic — I think you should not worry about being bare-legged.

The skirt looks perfect with that jacket.

I agree the tee is a bit big.

  6. Like the look. I too have braved the bare legs thing. Too hot in France to do anything else

  7. Duchesse – thanks so much! I think we sometimes build things up in our heads that turn out to be inconsequential in the real world.

cafelatte – good point! I hadn’t thought of it that way.

materfamilias – thank you! Now that I’m over this hurdle, more skirts will be worn.

Patti – thank you so much, and thanks for hosting VM!

That’s Not My Age – thanks!

  8. sisty – thank you! I fixed the link, thanks for the heads up.

hostess – you are very kind, thank you. These shoes are already favorites.

linda – thank you very much!

metscan – thanks, me too. 😉

frugalscholar – thank you. I love black-and-white ensembles; it’s hard to go wrong.

Marsha – thank you so much!

  9. style odyssey – thank you. I’ve really been inspired by some of your ensembles. I refuse to lie in the sun too, more out of concern about skin cancer than anything.

SheWhoAccessorizesWell – thank you so much. I’m glad to have this option.

Susan Tiner – thank you, Susan! Yes, re: the tee, and I’m now on a hunt for a replacement.

    K.Line – thanks!

  10. LPC – you are so sweet, thank you.

Debbie Baker Burns – thanks, I love the pointy toe shoes too!

A-Dubs – thank you so much! That’s the balance I was trying to achieve.

Chicatanyage – thanks, and yes, once the heat gets to a certain point, it’s all about staying comfortable!

Anne @ The Frump Factor – thank you! I hear nude hosiery (or at least very sheer hosiery) is making a comeback. I’ll never say never, but probably won’t be jumping on that bandwagon right away.

  11. Very nice. The legs look great! I definitely prefer bare legs to nude hosiery, any day of the week. And in summer, it’s very appropriate. Love the pattern on that skirt, too, as well as the shape. Bravo!

  12. Pasty white legs are a total nonissue. I don’t give it a second thought–and mine are very white as well. They are still great looking legs! No one in Dallas wears stockings—-ever. And who tans these days?

I’m with you on Stuart Weitzman shoes. I still own every pair I have ever purchased.

  13. Terri – thanks! I’m really liking these pencil skirts.

Susan – aren’t the SW shoes a great value? I have a pair of ankle boots that have seen me through either 5 or 6 winters now, and still favorites and going strong. Thanks for the words of support on the legs!

Ali – thank you so much! It’s definitely a challenge dealing with the physical changes and how they impact our sense of identity.

  14. Gorgeous! I love your blog! I’m dealing with turning 45 and facing that “other woman” in the mirror! Thank you for a great blog! 🙂

  15. Belated oohing and ahhhing!

Nice to see that skirt you featured on you — it was definitely a good buy, and I like its friends. The jacket is *really* nice on you.

To me you’re wearing a great business casual look –albeit on the more business than casual end (which is where I often end up) — but I know from what you’ve said this is pretty formal for your office. Are you still feeling good about this level of dress given your role there? Hope so!

ps I consider those legs tan. 😉 Rock on.
