Weekend Update: French Kitchen Inspiration And More

My Stylish French Box for August has a cooking theme, and was inspired by a visit to Provence. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

Inspired By A French Kitchen…

When Sharon announced that August’s “My Stylish French Box” would have a kitchen theme, I couldn’t wait to see what items she had selected. Now that we’ve updated our kitchen, I’ve had a renewed interest in cooking and decorating the space.

Each one of these boxes that I’ve received has been a delight, however I think this box is the best one yet!

The gifts included in the August My Stylish French Box are not only beautiful, but can be put to good use in the kitchen. I love the touches of copper, which add warmth. I’ll use those cannelé molds for tea candles, or even nuts on an apéro platter.

I use an apron daily, so this was my favorite item in the box. Sharon also included a booklet with some of her favorite recipes. I’ve already been thumbing through will be trying some soon.

And I’m going to try making this chocolate fondant cake over the weekend. It’s one of le Monsieur’s favorite desserts.

The August box is sold out, however you can still sign up for the November “My Stylish French Box.” All of the boxes contain uniquely French items curated by Sharon Santoni. Price includes shipping. These boxes make wonderful gifts too.

Disclosure: the August My Stylish French Box was gifted.

And speaking of French kitchen inspiration, some artwork we purchased in Paris to put on one of the walls is finally ready to be picked up today from the frame shop. I can’t wait to see it and share with you!

Tooth Update

After what felt like the longest two weeks of my life (!!!) I now have a temporary front tooth. It’s on a retainer-like device the dentist calls a “flipper.” It looks pretty good though. I have to remove it at night but at least I can eat with it in place, so can again enjoy a social life out in the world. 😆 In a few months, the surgeon will determine if the bone in my upper jaw has healed enough to place the implant. After that, I’ll have to wait another few months before I can get my new “permanent” tooth.

What are you cooking this weekend?

Bon weekend!

  1. I’m glad your tooth problem is heading in the right direction, yikes! I’m also looking forward to seeing your new artwork. Have a great weekend!

  2. Dear Susan, I wish you much strength with the tooth business! The box with all the nice things will help! O that cake, so lovely!

  3. I went to the farmer’s market and got beets with the greens attached, tomatoes, fingerling potatoes and cucumbers. Tonight I made the beet greens and they were delicious.

  4. Grilled Sicilian aubergines – the large round ones with pale violet and cream skin. And a braise of turkey thighs with lime juice, red onions and other things. The butcher cut the thighs into smaller pieces, all on the bone. And mixed salad, of course this time of year. I think your dentist is wise to ensure that the wound has healed, frustrating though this is.

  5. Congratulations on your excellent progress on the tooth front.

My cooking this weekend is nothing to write home (or here) about. But it’s lovely to read about others’ culinary accomplishments. And happily my sister invited me to dinner last night — both delicious and congenial.

It’s a beautiful August morning here in Missouri, and I’m so enjoying these last of the true-summer days. Soon another autumn will arrive with its own glories.

  6. Well, late yesterday afternoon I made brownie brioche bread. I switched up a brownie bread recipe to make it more like brioche. I let it cool overnight, and this morning I plan to make some french toast with it. Too bad I don’t have any fresh raspberries to go with it as that would be perfect. I’ll slice up the rest of the loaf and put it in the freezer to use up slowly over the next few weeks. Perhaps toasted with some marscapone cheese, and then maybe some bread pudding? How about cutting a few very thin slices and putting some sweetened vanilla cream cheese betwixt the slices, cutting them in quarters and serving those tea sandwiches at afternoon tea? And for something NOT including chocolate bread: If I have all the right ingredients on hand I might make some Vietnamese spring rolls for dinner with a peanut butter dipping sauce.

I look forward to seeing photos of your new kitchen and some of the delicacies you’ll be making in it!

  7. I just got a flipper myself last week! Nice to know that I’m not alone on this tooth implant journey. The ladies in the periodontist’s office called it a “party tooth” and that seems apt.

  8. I am at the end of the tooth journey, having my two front teeth with implants completed a year ago. The pathway maybe long but the end results are so worth it.. I am able to smile broadly with confidence, even better than a complete new wardrobe!!
