What the….?

This is a picture of Christina Hendricks from last night’s SAG Awards. (She plays the bodacious Joan on Mad Men.) I know, I didn’t recognize her either. What has she done to her face?!?!?

Is it the lack of bangs/fringe? The makeup? Something else? She looks wan and washed out.

For reference, from a previous award ceremony:~

  1. Well this is all very strange, what’s happened to Joan/Christine’s face? Is it an excess of fillers? Too much powder? No fringe? Insufficient blush? She is still DIVINE though. Public holiday here today in Australia YIPPPPEEEEEE xxxx

  2. With her coloring/complexion, I would suggest it’s the lack of lipstick (or too pale a color). The smokey eye/pale lip look works better on more olive & darker skin tones.

  3. I notice one other thing, though I’m not sure if it’s a effect of the photography:

She appears to have vibrant blue eyes in the photo from the previous award show and, at the SAGs, she appears to have brown or hazel eyes. Could account for another difference in appearance as well. The paler shade of lipstick also makes a huge difference.

  4. She’s still gorgeous, but in addition to all the other things mentioned I think her current dress choice makes her look like she has a fairly small head for her body size.

I saw a few different angles of this outfit and they all gave the same impression. The green dress + hair style gave her a more balanced look.

  5. I also think it is the makeup, some kind of different look than usual that removes her natural blush for the popular “nude” look. Too much pale, like Nicole Kidman.

  6. I think it’s lack of proper makeup. I have somewhat similar colouring and without enough makeup I look deadly pale.

If you enlarge the red dress picture her eyes are still blue. I think bad lighting is probably to blame too.

    Christine

  7. A great example to us: softer hair (a bit of bang or at least not skinned-back) and a definite (but not super-dark) lip is more flattering no matter what the age.

She looks quite generic in the top photo, and so meltingly gorgeous in the second.

But my sons said, “Oh, you’re looking at her *face*?”

  8. Maybe she has the flu? (A little one, not something serious.)

She also has a very wide forehead, maybe it’s all that expanse of pale, pale skin, unbroken by side-swept bangs.

  9. Definitely I like the latter picture better. I have not had the time to watch Mad Men yet, but I have the DVD´s waiting. Maybe some day.. I know, that it is just, that I´m too hard on myself; feeling guilty watching TV or movies, not doing something `useful´instead. I´ll have to work this situation out someway..

  10. Agree about the bangs, although it’s completely different light and here head is at a different angle. I want to look for other pictures to see if she looks just as bad…

  11. Just bad/heavy makeup and a bad angle. Makeup for pictures can look awful in natural light. This is just one of those pics that would never have been seen pre-internet.

She also dyes her hair a deep color which can wash one out as she is naturally pale.

  12. Once I look at her bosom I can’t remember what her face looks like. Seriously. I’ve never experienced this before. Is this what it’s like to be a man?

  13. I actually think she looks gorgeous in both, just different. And I love that red dress! I think it’s just that we’re used to seeing her a certain way, so the top pic is a bit startling in it’s departure from the norm.
