Ease, refined: perfect pieces for your next vacation (or staycation)

While I love overseas travel and exploring new cities, sometimes a quiet getaway for a few days is ideal for clearing the cobwebs and a restorative reset. Today I’m sharing some perfect pieces to pack for your next relaxed weekend getaway.

Many thanks to Frank & Eileen for sponsoring of this post. All ideas and opinions are my own. I was gifted the travel set and chinos as part of this collaboration. All other pieces are my own, purchased.

en route, in comfort

Load up your audiobook, grab a coffee, and enjoy the drive in comfort.

A matched set is one way to look effortlessly put-together. This triple-fleece “Carmel” set (gifted) is 100% cotton and SO comfortable. I’m wearing size Small.

Frank & Eileen uses pieces from the same dye lot for each of their travel sets, so the colors are perfectly matched. Did I mention “comfortable?” The cotton fabric is so soft, I didn’t want to take this off at the end of the day!

relaxed, refined separates

A relaxed collared shirt is a versatile player in my summer wardrobe. On its own, or worn open as a lightweight topper, it adds some structure to casual outfits. Above, I’m wearing the “Eileen” shirt in the “famous denim” fabric. (It’s really soft and lightweight!) This is the Spearmint color, and I’m wearing size Small. It’s a great summer staple, and available in a bunch of colors in both linen and cotton fabrics.

I’m always on the lookout for lightweight summer chinos, and these “Wicklow” pants (gifted) tick all the boxes! This “performance twill” fabric is super light, and just crisp enough. I sized up to an 8 for a more relaxed fit. Go with your usual size for a slimmer fit. These are the khaki, lots of other colors, too. They’re also offered in linen and denim.

  1. Thanks for all the comfortable pieces shared today, and for the array of natural fabric choices.

  2. Hello Susan, I do like the travel set. The pants look like ankle pants on you. I’m 5’5 and I imagine they would be crops on me. Their website doesn’t list the inseam, what would you guess it is?
Thanks, It looks great on you by the way1

    1. Hi Linda, thanks! The inseam on the pants is 25″ (I have proportionally long legs for my height, just FYI.)

  3. Frank and Eileen are my saviors for clothing during the summer, and also a lot of the year. Love the looks on you. That spearmint is a scrumptious color!

  4. Love the navy travel set; looks so comfortable, stylish and fabulous on you! One question though…at the end of the day, are the knees of the pants stretched out and baggy? Or do the pant legs retain their shape?

    1. If you read the reviews you’ll see there are complaints about the knees bagging out.

    2. Because the fit is relaxed in the legs, I haven’t noticed them bagging out, but almost all cotton knits will stretch out a little with wear.

  5. The navy travel set looks great on you, I especially like how you styled this set- cool, polished and comfortable! I really like Frank and Eileen’s clothing.

  6. The travel set looks great on you. But the pants would be too short for me, and the lack of pockets is a deal-killer.
I really love the aqua shirt, but I can’t spend almost $300 for that, lovely as it is!

  7. Thanks for this post Susan. I haven’t been sure of the sizing for the pants. I probably should have gotten the 8 but got 6 in the Wicklow pants. I like this company. Will have to purchase over time since their pieces are so expensive

  8. You look stunning in navy. I don’t think I’ve seen that colour near your face before and it’s just great on you. I like the outfit very much too. Inspiring.

  9. The travel set is great. I love Frank and Eileen. They are very splurgy, but their clothing is classic, built to last, cut perfectly, and can be thrown in the wash. They even get weird but critical things like button placement right. The look can be had for much less, of course, but I have a couple of Eileen shirts that I’d grab if the house was on fire. Good stuff.

  10. These pieces are so cute and SO far above my price range. Would love to see some more moderate priced options. I’m sure I am not alone. None of my friends pay these prices for clothing.

  11. I ordered the Wicklow pants because I love chinos and was curious how these differ from the more affordable brandsI typically wear. The answer: they don’t, at least not enough to justify the price. I’ll spend more on items that demand an investment, but something as casual and ordinary as chinos just don’t warrant the pricetag. Not for me, at least.

  12. I bought the Wicklow pants in 2021. I am usually a size 4 or 6 and got these in 4. They do stretch a bit with wear, so the 4 is perfect.

I’ve worn and washed these so many times, but they still look great. Worth the price.

  13. Like your hair but think it would look better if you tucked it behind your ears. Are you growing it?
Interesting how your colors have changed with the grey hair. My hair is white, white and makes my wheel color different not.
    Thanks for all your blogs
    Be well

  14. I have 2 old FE shirts that I wear every summer and they still look great, so I appreciate that you are featuring a sustainable responsible company with great fabrics. I know that they are spendy but I do not want to contribute to the fast cheap fashion problem (yes you polyester). These clothes do not go out of style, and I value that.

  15. I love to have a lounge set like this. Take off your fancy clothes when you come home and slip into something comfortable, which still looks good.
Mind you, the trousers would be rather short on me.
