A colorful hoodie outfit for fall

I’ve been on the lookout for a colorful zipped hoodie for a while now, but didn’t want just another “top half of a track suit.” When I saw this one, it was a coup de foudre!

Susan B. wears a colorful hoodie outfit: Johnny Was hoodie, rag & bone jeans, Frame sandals.

wearing: hooded jacket | tee (similar) | necklace | bracelet (similar) | jeans | sandals

I’m wearing size XS in the jacket, 26 in the jeans. Tee is a small, unfortunately no longer available in this color.

Yes, I’m “cheating” on my Spring palette just a little (many of the colors in this jacket land solidly in the Autumn palette). And the print definitely leans more into the Bohemian style personality. But I absolutely LOVE this print and the colors, which coordinate well with my wardrobe, so it’s a keeper.

Susan B. wears a Johnny Was zipped hoodie and French Kande medallion necklace.

This jacket is as comfortable as loungewear, but I’d wear it out for a casual dinner or date night styled like this. It’s a casual Hero Piece, easy to wear but makes a simple outfit more distinctive. The fabric weight is perfect for transitional season wear (or air-conditioned interiors, if it’s still hot where you are).

Here are few more wear-anywhere hoodies…

  1. What a terrific jacket! I love it. And whether it is in your colour palette or whether you are a Boho type or not, it suits you so well.
I prefer it zipped up. Gives me the best view of the pattern.

  2. You look fantastic in this. I usually don’t like hoodies, but this is something that certainly brings it up a few notches. I would have to pull out the pink tones with a top underneath to counteract the mustard, but worth a try. Love it.

  3. I LOVE the jacket! And I think the cut alone puts it firmly in “gamine” territory. I love a good “hybrid” item.

  4. You look great in this! I feel we should not box ourselves into a particular color palette, and you have proven this. If you like the colors and feel good in them wear them! I love a cozy hoodie. Most restaurants are kept so cold I always keep a jacket, sweater or hoodie that goes with my outfit in case we eat out when we go to “town”. Even though it is still near 100 degrees out most days.

  5. That’s GORGEOUS! I have a bright pink turtleneck covered in large chrysanthemums and I always love putting it on. There’s something about a gorgeous print in colors that you love that can’t be beat.

  6. OMG! I love the hoodie. You could wear it over a dress or layer it under something else when it gets cooler.
Just looking at the print makes me happy. Johnny Was is such a cool line.

  7. I agree with an earlier commenter that the shape, if not the print, suits a gamine. It looks amazing on you!
I’ve lusted after a Johnny Was kimono for years, but couldn’t justify the cost because it would be worn so infrequently, but a hoodie….The price is WAY beyond what I’ve spent on anything but shoes but I am very tempted! I really crave pattern, but rarely find one that thrills me. The listing says only “cotton and spandex”, could you share the percentages of each fiber?

  8. Because of you, I bought this hoodie—as an Autumn, I LOVE the colors and it goes with so many of my tops! (The XS is perfect—I usually wear an S). Taking it to London on Thursday—will be perfect for cooler weather! Thank you!

  9. That blue is a universally flattering color. You’ve pulled one of the better colors for you out of the print so it works perfectly. The print reads bohemian but the style–a hoodie–is more your gamine style than bohemian, I think, so again, it works.
