your new summer pants

J.Crew slim pants
J. Crew “Martie” pants

If you’re looking for a pair of slim, lightweight, flattering summer pants for the office, going out or travel, these “Martie” pants from J.Crew should be on your radar. Tried them on yesterday and they came home with me in Navy, though I’m thinking about going back for the color above (“Aztec Rust”). Machine washable too.

I was hoping they’d have this ikat popover shirt in the store, but it wasn’t in stock yet. This one definitely has possibilities.

Both of these styles are available in Regular, Petite and Tall online.

  1. Timely! I’ve been looking at those pants (online) for a while, but I just ordered similar ankle pants on sale from The Limited. Let’s see how they perform in real life.

    1. Accidental Icon, yes! Black too. (They were out of my size in the store but ordered for me.)

  2. These pants are fabulous, I was in search of a good pair of navy pants for a while and these tick every box for me!!

  3. I can see both of those pieces being great — for the life I was living up until last month. . . sitting out shopping as much as I can right now, just waiting to see what retirement will feel like, especially since it’s summer on the island, now. Jeans and T’s, I suspect. Crossing my fingers it’s not all downhill from here. . . 😉

  4. Personally, I am tired of ankle pants, cropped, anything that falls short (literally) of full-length pants. First, I have long legs and even most “regular” pants now come with a 31″ inseam, which is an ankle pant on me. Second, I am thin, with extremely thin ankles and long feet, and ankle pants call attention to this and make me look like a puppet or like I am on stilts with feet attached. These may be cute on some people, but I don’t want pants that look like they shrank.

  5. I have tried these on and for women whose entire leg from ankle to thigh joint are not “slim” (I am slim from knee to floor and larger than calf size from knee to thigh) they don’t seem to work as well. I find that pants by Slimsation, sold at boutiques and online…google them…are terrific. Moderate pricing, good color range, both ankle length with slits and longer length, lovely fabric that washes very well. Just a thought.

  6. I have not tried these but my experience has been that side-zip pants are so flattering and tummy flattening! (So why aren’t all my pants side-zip???) Great range of colors and I love the fabric content. Thank you for the tip!

  7. Love these pants. Do they run true to size? And did you order them in petite? I really enjoy your blog and look forward to reading it in the evenings after work.

    1. Hi Holly, they run true to *J.Crew* sizing. I like them to hit right at the top of the ankle, and the size 4 regular was the best fit for me.
