Survey: Your Input Requested…

would you take a survey?

I’m just back from New York, and my head is still spinning! It was such an amazing and inspiring few days, and I’ll share some of the details soon.

When I left my full-time job at the end of May, I looked forward to having more time and focus to devote to blogging. I decided to give myself a few months at the start to enjoy some off-the-clock time, not only to catch up with a few projects at home, but to adjust to a freer schedule and figure out my own rhythms. There are times of the day I’m better at writing and creating, and others when I’m better able to knuckle down for more routine or repetitive tasks.

Can I just say I’m LOVING not having to go into an office every day?? While I miss some of the interactions with co-workers, I do not miss the grind or the routine. And I especially don’t miss sitting in rush hour traffic!! I’ve kept myself quite busy without even really trying and now am ready to get a bit more of a handle on my schedule and where I’m going with the blog.

I have a lot of ideas, but I’d love your input as well. What types of posts do you enjoy most or least? How often do you read, and how are you notified of new blog posts? What topics would you like to see covered more often? The short survey linked below will help me quantify your responses, but please also feel free to leave a comment with any ideas or input. It will be open for one week, and then I’ll analyze and share the results. Thank you very much!

Just took your survey… I follow your blog daily. Love it!!! I’ve benefitted from your comment about truly wonderful products (e.g. Taos footwear, Lipault luggage, Eileen Fisher black jersey pants!!). I’d love to see additional info about recommended items. It would be super if you would be willing to offer advice about adjusting/enhancing/(downsizing!?!) a wardrobe for those among us who are recently retired.

Love the blog, too and would love to see this type of post in detail, as well!

One important thing I enjoy about Susan’s blog is her theoretical, philosophical observations, which often spring out of her practical, detailed advice about, say, travel make-up bags or boots. Few blogs are as intelligent or as thoughtful.

Ditto. Especially the travel and packing advice.

Happy to have taken the survey. Love the fashion and style tips. Enjoy seeing the outfits you fashion from new and treasured pieces in your wardrobe. Am interested in seeing more on living the best life while working from home or retired.

Yes. The survey is a good idea and I agree with more lifestyle blogs. We all have so much to say!

I love your blogs about fashion and jewelry and styling. I do not like the posts about food and recipes since I do not like cooking at all. I feel I can look at cookbooks for that.

I agree with the above comments. I also appreciate the recommendations for stylish but classic clothing. I entered to Nordstrom to try on your NYC EF crepe pants but I am not a fan of “to the ankle” slacks. I like them reach to the top of my foot or be Capri length. I don’t like shopping so your blog is a service for me.

Hi Susan, I am a long term reader of your blog and just finished the survey. I check your blog nearly every day with my morning coffee, hoping for a fresh post. It’s a great way to start the day. I think the mix you have in topics is just about right: mostly fashion and style, some travel, and various other posts from time to time. I like your thought pieces on lifestyle and staying young (aging vibrantly). I also buy through your links whenever I can to support the blog. Keep up the great work!

I should have mentioned somewhere in the survey that I like to follow your style tips and outfits because I am also small and figure what looks good on you might also look good on me.

Yes, another reason I follow you avidly. I’m also short (and your age) so get a good idea of appropriate styles to try, without spending many frustrating hours shopping.

I check your blog daily as part of my morning routine. Yours is the first blog I read. I would have ranked the wardrobe – travel – packing tips all as number one in the survey if i could have. I also appreciate your advice, comments on accessorizing. As well as agreeing with all the earlier comments I especially agree with Patty’s comment (from 0540h above).
    I love your blog!

I love your blog too! If I were to suggest anything more, it would be to say I am interested in your IDEAS–on life, travel, fashion, you name it. Also just have to say I do like your occasional food related posts. Like you, I am a long time WW lifetime member, so I try to eat things that are both delicious and healthy–and I am always interested in more ideas.

My “Other” response for Q 1 on the survey: I enjoyed the shopping trip you took in Paris, seeing what you tried on, what you eventually purchased, regrets, tips you shared from the owner about color, fit and brands, etc.

  12. September 9, 2016 / 5:05 pm

I completed the survey but I also wanted to post TO you–and not the survey. What I want to see is–less of the “ads”. They are fillers. And sometimes it can be daunting to make my way through them. I also want to see YOU. And when I say that I mean–ok–like when you posted the other day about the outfit you ended up wearing to the wedding. It wasn’t your ideal outfit.—but show it. Show us the real you when you aren’t perfect. That is what makes you more —groovy!! I read every post you write—and sometimes I absolutely love what you write and am ready to do my happy dance–and sometimes I do an “eyeroll”–the kind you give to friends you grew up with because its ok to do that. But I wanna see you when you are at your computer after not going outside for a day or two. Tell us you haven’t shaved your legs for three days. It’s all cool!

And keep writing about your travels!! XOXOXOXOXO!!!

This is an interesting, intelligent, well-dressed blog that I find inspiring and informative.

I agree with comments from Suz and Patty! Love the outfit, travel, travel outfits/packing posts especially. Yours is one of my two favorite blogs (Catherine’s is the other). I’m heading off to London next week and have committed to “carry on” only. Thanks for the great packing posts! I also especially like your pics and links to similar lar items to what you feature in your posts…so I can simply click and shop. Keep it coming!

Thanks Donna. Carry On sister! It’s the only way to travel these days!! It helps you to really think about the clothes you will be wearing while away!

So many things I have learned from your blog! I now have 3 pieces of French Kande jewelry and a few Eileen Fisher items too. Love to see what you pack for trips, where you go when you travel, etc. I’m into mix & match so I love to see multiple ways to wear basic pieces. Thanks for the hard work that you put into this blog!

Best of luck as you begin your next life— living without boundaries! Your blog has such style and heart. I would write about whatever interests YOU. I’m sure youd make it interesting and worth reading. I really think “women of a certain age” don’t have much of a voice. We have so much to say and are eager to listen and learn. That being said, I personally don’t care much about beauty products and would probably get health info and recipes from other sources. Fashion, travel, lifestyle, your take on it all? Count me in.

Hi! I completed the survey with lots of questions about wardrobe management. I neglected to comment about how much I appreciate and have learned from you through daily reading of your blog. Thank you!
P.S. How many suitcases do you have? How does your HUSBAND pack, OR, how do you pack for him???

I find your blog calming and I don’t know why. I think because it’s not too wordy and I don’t feel like it’s too full of ads. Maybe it’s just the white background! Also, your photos on your sidewalk are very nice. I like that they are always in the same place and same composition and then I can just focus on the outfit. I like to learn about stylish clothes that are also comfortable for the mid-life woman from you. You turned me on to NYDJ jeans and Munro shoes so I appreciate that insight. I feel like you did the legwork of finding quality and comfortable clothing so I don’t have to and I’m glad for that. I’m not into the makeup or beauty products, but that could just be me, since I use them rarely. Love the outfit posts and could be happy with those over and over again! Thanks for all the work you do for us!

I retired a year ago and spent many months (and many mistakes) trying to transition from business casual/business travel wardrobe to one better suited for errands, volunteer work and lunch with long-lost friends. Your blog has played an important part in that transition (this was before your decision to retire) and continues to this day. One of the first things I check each morning with my 1st cup of coffee.

One thought (didn’t think until after I completed survey) – although I travelled internationally as part of my job, it is not something that we can afford as part of our retirement budget. I would enjoy a few “pack for a weekend” posts with your special insights and thoughts.

I completed the survey. Long time reader living in the Midwest in the Summer and the Florida Gulf Coast in the Winter. I am 58 and do not work outside the home. I especially like your travel and packing posts. Skincare and style, too. I guess I appreciate everything you write about! Keep it up!

I really enjoy the careful thought you put into your style tips. I purchased my first Longchamp bag on your recommendation, and I love it. Perfect travel bag. I always thought they were teenager bags, but seeing how you styled it and the model you chose, I thought, “that looks wonderful’ and I wanted it too.

You and your blog are responsible for my being able to manage my own (carry-on) luggage on a month-long trip to Europe last September for the first time ever. I made a few mistakes, and hope to do better on our 2017 month-long trip.

I love the travel wardrobe posts and those on how to pare down my closet. It’s a work in progress. Actually, I enjoy all your posts having to do with clothing and travel – and even beauty. However, I don’t spend as much on my clothes as you do, so I really appreciate when you offer some lower-priced alternatives.

If I could only look as put together as you do, Susan. Sigh ….

    I filled out the survey.
