Top Suede Fashion Picks: Jackets, Shoes, and Accessories for Fall

One of the things I love most about fall trends, is that so often they aren’t actually “trendy,” just a refreshed take on classic wardrobe items. Think blazers, loafers, boots, corduroy, plaid…all of these perennials start to feel fresh again come fall. And let’s not forget suede, which is Having A Moment. Suede jackets, bags, shoes, and accessories may be on trend for fall, but have timeless appeal and wardrobe longevity.

Texture is a major player in this year’s fall style trends, and suede is one of the most predominant. I’ve always been a fan of suede. It has both richness and softness, can be elegant or earthy, and can be surprisingly durable.

The best suede pieces to wear now

While you can find just about any type of garment in suede this year, I think it works best for jackets, shoes, and accessories. Here are a few of my picks; it was hard to narrow down this list, as there’s just so many good pieces this season!

Suede jackets

A good quality suede jacket that suits your style will be an investment that you can wear year after year.

Madewell suede relaxed classic blazer in brown.

Madewell Kline Suede Blazer – $498

This classic style blazer has a relaxed boyfriend fit, available in sizes 00-16. For those of you who live where winters are milder, this might be as much coat as you need.

Misook Reversible Suede & Leather Jacket – $978

Yes, it’s spendy, but you’re essentially getting two jackets for the price. The two finishes double your styling options, making it a good option for fall travel.

Madewell Belted Suede Utility Jacket – $625

Great for those with a more casual style, this jacket can be worn belted or unbelted. Or mix it up with more polished separates to create an interesting style friction.

Quince Suede Overshirt – $150

If your style is more relaxed, this suede overshirt can be worn as either a shirt or jacket. Also available in two shades of brown, sizes XS-XL.

Talbot’s Suede Cropped Jacket – $599

This little jacket is a new favorite of mine, and many of you liked it too! It’s available in Regular, Petite, and Plus sizes (runs true-to-size).

Ann Taylor Faux Suede Moto Jacket – $138.60

Faux suede can be a more budget-friendly option (and is often machine washable). This steel gray moto style is available in Misses and Petite sizes.

Chico's faux suede single breasted jacket beige.

Chico’s faux suede jacket – $149

While most of the current crop of suede jackets are in warmer tones, I think this one might be neutral enough to be worn by Springs, (some) Summers, and Autumns. Sizes 0 (4) to 4 (20/22).

This one’s also machine washable.

Tahari Faux Suede Long Jacket – $169

This longer length is a great outfit finisher for office or out to dinner. It’s available in sizes 2-18. (Per size information, if in between sizes go down.)

J.Crew Berkeley Suede Tote – $228

“Ludicrously capacious” without weighing a ton. I LOVE the shape of this bag. Also available in dark brown.

Veronica Beard Dash Bag in Bark suede.

Veronica Beard Dash Bag – $648

I think this bag is an absolute stunner! This size is smaller, but still has room for all of the essentials (wallet, phone, keys, cosmetic bag, assorted bits). The longer strap lets you wear it crossbody, or can be removed.

Madewell crossbody suede bag – $148

Here’s another one that’s a great everyday option. I love the bowling bag shape and navy suede.

Madewell Sling Crossbody bag – $148

Hands free ease. This size is perfect for everyday, and although there are neutral colors available, I think this light blue could add such a nice and unexpected pop to an otherwise neutral outfit.

adidas BRMD sneaker – $110

Classic sneaker style in a suede finish. I’ve tried these on and they’re very comfortable with some arch support. Run true-to-size, and also available in dark green.

Steve Madden suede western style ankle boot.

Steve Madden “Dusty” – $149.95

A refined take on the western-style bootie, these have the look of the much pricier style from Khaite.

👉Style tip: a narrow shaft boot like this one works well with both pants and skirts!

Vionic Uptown Penny Loafer – $129.95

These are available in several finishes (and Wide widths) including black suede. But I thought this dark green was a nice alternative for you Winters and Blue Autumns.

Blondo Waterproof Leather Booties – $129.95

These are also available in several finishes, including black suede, and have a lug sole for traction on slick surfaces. (I couldn’t resist showing the leopard print.)

J.Crew Blanket Stitch Suede Belt – $59.50

A belt can work magic when it comes to making a simple, casual outfit look finished. The blanket stitching on this one adds another bit of textural interest.

Caring for suede pieces

Good quality suede can be quite durable, and wear well for years. If suede is not already waterproofed, I recommend treating with a waterproofing spray (also helps protect against stains). Your cleaner or cobbler can also do this if you’re nervous about doing on your own. Use a foam sponge or soft fabric brush to remove dust and dry dirt and restore the nap if needed. Grease or other stains can often be removed by a professional.

Suede and faux suede pieces are a fabulous way to add some chic and refined texture to your outfits. What are your favorite suede or faux suede styles?

  1. Funny, I have nothing against suede but apart from shoes, I wouldn’t buy any other suede items. Never realised that before.

  3. Magnificent suggestions! Thanks for the ideas. If I were still working, I’d buy several – such classic options.

  4. Fun post! I was very pleasantly surprised to see that I already own the Adidas sneakers, and I own a jacket very similar to the Misook jacket! I hadn’t realized suede was trending this fall. Thank you!
