Age-Appropriate Yet Ageless
That was my first reaction when I saw this at The Sartorialist today. Though I probably wouldn’t wear this ensemble myself (being short, the clothes would swamp me), I love how she’s mixed the classic and the funky.

This is how casual dress should be done.
She reminds me of my mom – same sort of stylish devil-may-care. The night before she had her heart attack, she was hosting a whole house full of musicians, and wore and black and gold tunic sweater, a long black skirt and every gold necklace she owned. Danced all over the house.
I love everything but the headband, which I think infantalizes women; band plus pink flats equals too girlish for me. It’s a great day whenever The Sartorialist shoots older women. Not all of them are in St John knists!My favourite is his Italian friend, Renata.
I like everything on her. I LOVE seeing stylish women of a certain age. My mother lives in a golf community where St. John Knits is “the” uniform. It is great to see women who maintain personal style as they age.

I am petite too but recently I let my dress-maker make some suggestions – and alterations. She took a pair of stone coloured cotton trousers and made them into 3/4 length ones, not different from what this lady is wearing. I do not look swamped in them, although I wear them with a frilly linen shirt which she took me to buy as well. Neither frills nor linen were my cup of tea earlier. I think for the trousers, the trick is to stop at a certain point in one’s legs. For me that point is where my strong calves end and the relatively slim shin area begins. She was able to see that and shortened them accordingly. And yes, I wear them with flats (I wear everything with flats).

Is that a skirt or a split skirt? I can’t tell.
I had thought it was a skirt, but now I’m not certain.
