From the comfort of home: trying on some Nordstrom Anniversary Sale finds

It’s one thing to see items online, styled on a model, and another to see them on women of various shapes and sizes. That’s one of the best things about the style blogosphere, IMO. So today I’m doing a quick at-home try-on of some of the pieces I’ve featured from the Nordstrom Anniversary sale, with notes about fit, fabric and colors.

For reference, I’m 5’1″, usually a size 4-6, or Small.

I took advantage of early access for Nordstrom cardholders, and ordered a few things online to pick up in the store. And I have a few things on order that I’ll share once I have them as well. I promise not to inundate you with Anniversary Sale posts 😆. But I often get questions about how things fit, so wanted to show you these pieces early in the sale.

At-home try-on: Nordstrom Anniversary Sale

knit jackets

L'agence green knit jacket from Nordstrom Anniversary Sale.
JACKET | TOP | JEANS (SIMILAR) | SANDALS

This L’Agence knit jacket was at the top of my wish list, and it seems I’m not the only one! It’s already sold out in some sizes. (Though I’m assuming a lot of folks did what I did and ordered multiple sizes, and will be returning what doesn’t fit.) So add to your wish list, and keep watching for re-stocks. It has shoulder pads and is fitted through the waist and hips. I’m wearing size Small.

This is the Caslon one-button knit jacket I included in my top picks, and I give this one high marks! I’m wearing the X-Small here but think the Small will be a better fit (still on order). It’s available in several colors. (The Pink Smoke color is a pretty one for you Summers.)

Here are a few more jackets and blazers from the sale worth a look…

loafers

I think these loafers will be keepers, too! They’re good looking and comfortable, though I do think they run just a little big. I’m wearing the 7.5 here and have a 7 on order to compare the fit. There’s excellent arch support and the insoles are removable. (Update, the 7 is a perfect fit, so I’d suggest going down 1/2 size. These are also available in Wide sizes.)

long cardigan

CARDIGAN (PLUS) | TOP | JEANS (SIMILAR) | SANDALS | TOTE

This longline open cardigan is another budget-friendly piece that will be perfect for transitional season wear! I’m wearing size Small in Desert Camel, which is slightly darker and more muted than it looks on the Nordstrom website. (Great neutral for Autumns & Springs!) This is SO soft! Several colors available, also in Plus here. (Winters, check out the Grape Wine color…)

I loved the look of this AllSaints tote online, and was curious enough to bring it home to try. It’s a bit larger than what I need, but would be a great tote for commuting or Big Shlep days. There’s a matching zippered pouch that clips inside. Snaps shut at the top, and can be carried in hand, on the arm, or on the shoulder with the longer straps. Three colors, all still available.

short cardigan

This was one of the pieces I was really excited about. It’s super cute, but not a good style for me, as it lands at just about the widest point of my torso. I’m wearing a Medium, but don’t think a smaller size would be much better. If you’re taller or longer-waisted, give it a go!

silk blouse

While making a quick pass through the store, I spotted this silk paisley print blouse and was intrigued by the print and bracelet sleeves. I’m wearing size Small here. I don’t think the colors are great for me, probably better for Autumns. It will be going back. But it’s a beautiful piece, so wanted you to see it.

I have a few more things still on order, so I’ll do another round of at-home try-ons during the sale. And don’t forget to check out more of my sale picks in the SHOP.

  1. Good morning, Susan, I don’t live near a Nordstrom so my shopping is done online. Even though they have a generous return policy, it gets tiresome! Seeing you in these pieces really helps. And I always appreciate the color/season advice. Thanks!

  2. Hi Susan, thanks for sharing the modeling photos – this is very fun. I am not a Nordstrom shopper, but perhaps might be in the future because these are tempting photos! Have a great day.

  3. And I will second that Vionic shoes run a little large on me too. I’m usually an 11 but when I recently tried on shoes from that brand they were loose.

  4. Thank you for this. The green jacket and the silk blouse are already sold out. ?????
Looks like it’s going to be a frustrating sale.

    1. Hi Carolyn, sorry about that! What I’ve found in past years is that items often get re-stocked, so add to your wish list and keep checking back. I notice every year that some items that initially sell quickly do become available again during the sale.

      1. From what I can see on the Nordstrom app, they aren’t providing an option for sold out items to be added to your wish list. At least they are not for the two L’Agence items

  5. This is very helpful. I’ve got the cardigan in two colors and Vionic loafers in black on my wish list.

  6. I adore that green L’Agence jacket. The rest is also good, but the green one is my favourite. And the loafers…very good. I started following you because of your great choice of (low heeled) shoes.

  7. Love that L’Agence silk blouse (already sold out except for XS). And I *really* love the video on the product page, which is hosted by my all-time favorite Nordstrom sales associate, Diane Pollack from the NYC flagship store. She is such a kick–reminds me of a young Fran Drescher.

  8. A lot of really lovely pieces. That l’Agence knit blazer is fantastic – as of this evening the green is still available at Saks online for $425, I have no idea what the Nordstrom sale price is. Sadly, it’s still out of my budget. Absolutely agree that that paisley blouse does you know favors colorwise: isn’t it fascinating how once we can really ‘see’ how colors work on us, the ones that don’t absolutely shout it? That longline cardigan is another lovely piece, and budget friendly. Not a fan of those loafers, though I love the ones in ivory. But you always did wear animal prints well!

  9. It boils down to confidence. When you look good, you feel good. Society’s insistence on making clothing seem like a frivolous woman’s pastime is just the modern way of keeping women from realizing their potential. It was after all, men (not women), who spent more time and money with their personal tailors in the 1800s. Today, women owe it to our mothers and our daughters to get dressed. Get out of your gym clothes. Stop hiding and put real clothes on. It’s the only way we will ever make a difference in this world.
