If Your Current Vibe Is “Coastal Chic,” You’ll Love These Fab Finds
Whether or not you live near the coast, “coastal chic” style is perfect for summer’s more relaxed mood. The combination of comfort and easy elegance of these pieces makes creating laid-back-but-put-together outfits a (summer) breeze.
Summer stripes
Summer and stripes just seem to go together! This lightweight cotton-blend cardigan from Rails is perfect for our cool coastal mornings and evenings. I’ve also been wearing it buttoned as a top; the v-neck hits high enough that I can forego another layer underneath.
And I’ve been wearing these linen trousers on repeat. I know the creases are a deal-breaker for some, but I’ve learned to embrace them as part of linen’s charm. (I also find that wearing them with fabrics that don’t wrinkle helps retain some neatness in the overall look.)
Silk, but make it wafty. Pack this for your summer travels. Elegant enough for dinner out, but breezy enough to keep you cool.
J.Crew Featherweight Linen Shirt
The sleeves can be worn long or short, thanks to the roll-tab detail. Sizes 00-24.
Frank & Eileen Heritage Jersey Tee
Nautical and nice…the fitted elbow length sleeves add neatness and structure to this relaxed-fit 100% cotton jersey tee.

Eileen Fisher Airy Twill Trousers
These organic cotton twill trousers have the look of jeans, but are incredibly lightweight. (They’re the same fabric as the drawstring pants I’m wearing here. They’re available in Misses XXS-3X and Petites. (Run TTS; I found the Petites a bit long, perfect if you want to wear a wedge or platform, or just prefer a full-length trouser.)
Relaxed elegance in dress form… here’s another one to pack for your warm weather travels. You could easily dress this up with some simple jewelry and a change of shoes. On my monitor, this Cascade color looks good for Autumns, some darker Summers and Blue Springs. It’s also available in a black/white melange.
Sizes XXS-3X and Petites (!!!)
St. Moran Freshwater Pearl Necklace
Casual pearls with a nautical vibe…this shorter necklace is an easy way to elevate your summer outfits.
Madewell Shell & Freshwater Pearl Earrings
Summer is the perfect time to have a little fun with your jewelry. These shell earrings with a drop freshwater pearl are playful but not overly large.
Ann Taylor Freshwater Pearl Ring
This statement ring is a fun and budget-friendly style (currently on sale!) that punches above its weight appearance-wise.

Yes – there is nothing like linen trousers even in a UK summer ! I find just ironing the last few inches above the ankle is adequate in a hurry because the weight straightens the rest of the leg . If it is too straight it looks more like an “artificial” linen – ie polyester !
Hi Susan
I have embraced the wrinkles of linen as well, and completely agree it is part of it’s charm and comfort!
The care instructions for the “washable” Everlane silk shirt say “dry clean”. A bit confusing!
I wash almost all of my silk pieces (on delicate cycle, in a lingerie bag). I have this shirt on order in the Burnt Sugar color and will report back!
I am in week 5 of a trip that includes France, Japan and Uzbekistan. My “workhorses” are 3 pairs of linen pants and several Eileen Fisher linen tops. I don’t mind the wrinkles—fair trade-off for comfort in heat and humidity, easy laundering in hotel sink and quick drying. I use a spray bottle to spritz with water to relax the wrinkles. Linen is my best friend.
