Adding Color With Accessories

Halogen slide sandals in blue suede, recommended by Susan B. at unefemme.net

I’ve learned my lesson, mostly. Every year about this time I go on a mad “I’ve got to add some COLOR to my wardrobe!” bender. And then wake up a few weeks later face down in a rumpled pile of clothing (with color names like “Neon Dandelion”) that never sees the light of day. So this year I’m focused on a) sticking with clothing in navy, gray, white and other lighter neutrals, and b) using accessories to add color.

Above: if I didn’t already have Too Many Shoes, I would have added these suede slides to my collection. In a heartbeat. They’re pretty, super comfortable and reasonably priced.

I did however, succumb to these printed mules before I put my shoe buying moratorium in place. They are so fun and really comfortable. They are still available in most sizes at the link posted, and on sale!

from Susan B. at unefemme.net, Longchamp Penelope Tote in blue mist

I know I showed you a similar version of this Longchamp tote recently, but I also have to recommend this color (“blue mist”) as well. It’s an absolutely stunning periwinkle blue. I’m totally crushing on this bag. This color is also on sale and still available as of this posting. It’s lightweight, and a nice size for daily use. You can see both the bag and those orange mules on my instagram here. (And don’t they make a lovely couple?)

The soft color of this French Kande necklace will play nicely with bolder colors in your outfit. I’m really liking silver jewelry for summer, and it works so well here with the Sea Mist Jade stones.

Finally, if you have some special events coming up, or could just use an adorable evening bag, this convertible clutch in a soft pink is just the thing. “Excuse me while I go powder my nose.” Yes, that’s leather fringe. I’ve seen an ivory version of this bag in person, and it’s fabulous. Also on sale currently.

What colors are you gravitating toward this season?

  1. The good thing about going for a crazy color via a bag or shoes is that you can put them away for a year and then bring them out again (change of size unlikely for shoes and not at all for bags) and they feel like new.

  2. I love turquoise! Just got back from Colombia and picked up some fun jewelry on the cheap from a street vendor. I NEED that Longchamp bag!

  3. I can’t imagine what it would be like to wear a pair of those beautiful, colorful shoes, sigh.. I wear 11 AAA and mostly, the shoe brands offer the color “bland” for my size.

  4. I’m loving your summer fun postings! I especially fell in love with your navy Italian jacket–Wow. I’m going to try Everlane’s Trench but it won’t have that je ne sais quoi like your jacket. *sigh*.
I also love love love that periwinkle blue handbag!!–alas it’s way out of my price range these days. I did however managed to get a Lo and Sons crossbody on sale for our upcoming trip to Europe!
The slides have been fun and I love how you boldly wear your reds, oranges and blues! I got the oh so boring linen colored Halogen slides with clunky heels. I thought they do nicely for summertime dinners and lunches–and maybe even be lighter than my old Donald Pliner wedges.
I’m so interested in the sea mist jade FK. I’ve been longing for one of those medallion type necklaces for years now. They’re also pricey for me. I’ll have to think about it some more.
    So enjoy your posts!! x

  5. Every time I see that bag, I am transported by the colour. I can no longer carry medium or large leather bags unless going somewhere in a car, just too heavy to haul around all day. But oh it is gorgeous!

  6. I love your blog…and your style hints. Your shoe picks are my favorites…just gave in myself and bought the orange Sam Edelman print slides….got them on sale too! Thanks!

  7. Not too crazy about mules. Make me think of house slippers too much. Not sexy enough for summer fun and wear!

  8. Funny post, and so true!I know I’d get a lot of use out of that lovely pink bag. Might have to think about that one. The orange mules are wonderful but the color combo in the print just wouldn’t work with my wardrobe. I love them with your blue handbag though.
