Comfortable Valentine’s Day Outfit Inspiration
Well hello, February! A couple of you have asked for outfit ideas for a casual Valentine’s/Galentine’s Day celebration. Inspired by my blogger friend Greetje’s recent pink and burgundy outfit, I created this cute but comfortable look.
Colorful outfit for casual Valentine’s Day celebrations

(Lipstick color shown is 126 “Season”)
I started with these textured satin pants in burgundy from J.Crew. They’re not a super-shiny satin, and are available in several colors (most also in Petite and Tall sizes). They’re machine washable too. Next, a classic cardigan in Shocking Pink, which can be worn on its own or as a top layer over the drapey tee. (Someone mentioned dancing…just remove or tie the cardigan over your shoulders if you get warm.)
More bright pink cardigans:
C by Bloomingdale’s | American Vintage | Chico’s | ba&sh | Talbot’s* | Boden | Lands’ End**
*this one looks like a warmer pink on my monitor, might be good for Springs
**more of a Rose pink, good for Summers
If you’re not sure which shade of pink is best for you, here’s a post that explains the differences, with lots of examples: How to Wear Pink: Style Tips for Every Seasonal Palette
I also shared this video on Instagram:
For those of you who need Narrow or Wide width shoes for a special event, take a look at these slingbacks. The low block heel is comfortable for walking, and if you’ll be outdoors, won’t sink into the grass.
Le Monsieur and I never really celebrated Valentine’s Day, which suited us just fine. We both used to joke that with us, “every day is Valentine’s Day.” This year, I’ll be inviting a couple of my women friends out for brunch, but not on the 14th, when restaurants are usually packed. Do you celebrate Valentine’s (or Galentine’s) Day?

Love, love, love!
Recently, I’ve been wondering about home decor, related to my personal seasonal color palette. Has anyone considered this when choosing a palette for their home?
YES – I suppor this! Make your home a shrine to the colors that make YOU shine!! My, formerly, blue-based red dining room was always ‘off’ to me…and then I changed it to a warm, tomato red – It really LIFTS ME UP!! “Try it, you’ll like it!”
I would have stayed away from pink thinking it was a pastel colour until I discovered the many shades. As you say, there is a pink for everybody.

My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day either (he travels for work, so often he’s not home), but I like to get my kids something little. My mom always got us kids something on Valentine’s Day, and it’s a lovely tradition to continue. As for pink, I might try adding something that will work for my summer palette.
I recently purchased “Soft Shine” pajama pants in Sangria Red from J Crew. They are very versatile! Nice looking and comfortable for lounging. For a casual outing, I plan on pairing them with a sweatshirt and ballet flats.
My Husband and I are low key around Valentines Day too. We enjoy cooking, so will have a cozy dinner at home.
February is bright in my family though! My daughter was born on Washington’s Birthday (2/22) and two Grandsons have birthdays this month. (2/6 and 2/20).
We used to also have a big girls party to watch the Oscar’s, but that lost its steam during the pandemic. I think that’s moved to March permanently.
My sister, niece and I are seeing The Brutalist today. It’s a marathon at 3 hrs 30 minutes!
I’ve always enjoyed the spirit, colors, and imagery of Valentine’s (and now Galentine’s) Day. I still send cards to my friends and family, sometimes homemade. Thanks for this very pinky post.
Love your Valentine’s ideas! Here in Leisure World/Seal Beach I’ll be attending our Valentine dinner/dance with three other ladies. It was advertised as “not only for couples” and the entertainment will be provided by Stone Soul, a rock band. Galentine’s Day rocks!
I have those J.Crew pants in that color, and I also have a bright pink cashmere V-neck sweater, and I would NEVER have thought to put them together! Thank you for the inspiration!!!
We usually go out for a nice dinner on an alternate day. Restaurants really don’t like feb 14 because they get all two tops instead of some larger more profitable groups. So they create “special” menus to address the profit problem. While I understand their issue, it just felt like a disappointment to me that my favorite dish wasn’t on the special menu.
Our wedding anniversary is Feb 28; we skip Valentines and go for our anniversary. The restaurants are way less crowded and there is no risk of getting tired looking flowers. Also, my sister’s birthday is the 14th. I always wanted to focus on my baby sister’s birthday instead of
Valentines.
We typically don’t go out. Yellow roses and a nice dinner at home
We don’t go out on Valentine’s Day but have a nice dinner at home. my birthday is three days later so we celebrate that instead. Love the pink
My husband and I don’t celebrate Valentine’s Day. Our anniversary is 9 days later so we go out for a special dinner then.
