Look Of The Week: Casual Classic With Light Neutrals

With so much clamoring for our attention these days, a simple outfit in soft neutral shades can feel calming and centering.

Here’s a similar pair of pants, also available in cool neutrals, and in Regular, Petite & Tall sizes. That sweater above is offered in a bunch of colors too. Here’s a v-neck style. Those horse-bit loafers are available in several colors and finishes, and get rave reviews for style and comfort. (I own a pair, and agree!)

I’m still a firm believer that putting ourselves together, dressing with intention, is a form of self-care. It’s a way of showing up for ourselves, of being present, and staying grounded. The outfit doesn’t have to be complicated or formal. And accessories can go a long way in making it feel more finished.

Having a capsule wardrobe, or at least a few go-to items can make getting dressed easier on those days when we have limited bandwidth. For tips on building a wardrobe capsule, here are a couple of posts that can help you get started:

Anyone else ready to be done with January??? 😉

  1. So jealous of these types of outfits as a dark winter! I try to use lighter cool grays as my light neutral (mostly in warm weather), but cool toned lighter gray pants seem hard to find. If you come across any please pass them on for the summers and winters! Thanks.

  2. Me (waving my hand wildly)…..
    I am SO OVER January.
It’s one day closer to Spring is what I keep telling myself.
That being said… remember to ‘seize and squeeze the joy out of today’.
All the best Susan and Take Care

  3. That combination looks like it came from my closet…although perhaps with a lower overall price tag. I’ll keep to less wide pants though, not skinny, but more flattering for me if they’re not too full. I love cashmere and have had many sweaters and cardigans for years, well protected from moths. I have been editing to consign pieces I’m not loving anymore, and then accumulating some very basic pullovers from Banana Republic and Athleta during deep discounts. All for my warm autumn colour palette.
January was a lovely sunny month here, after nasty storms from mid October on…so I shall miss the joy the good weather brought. Unfortunately, for us living above the 49th parallel, turning the calendar to February brings angst for us economically… all depends what the new US government decides. Many Canadians will be looking closely at labels, as we shop more wisely coming into spring. Not much spending on clothing going forward from this PNW senior.

    1. Also “No49” here. No spending except on essentials of life starting tomorrow and carefully reading country of origin labels on all of those going forward. Cancelling services, too, and leaving social media platforms. Big changes ahead.

  4. Yes and no. Glad to be done, but tomorrow is Feb. 1. Hard to say which is worse.

Thank you for this casual classic with neutrals look: simple but elegant.

Now back to my work of getting of certain platforms.

  5. Love this entire look Susan. Those green earrings are such a pop. I have similar pieces in my wardrobe, including the exact same shoes (love, love them, so comfortable). Thank you for putting it together! Only downside is, living in CNY, I’ll be wearing this in mid-March instead of right now. Best wishes.
