Dans Le Jardin

jardin 5

Well, the rain has certainly perked things up around here. All of the plants that bloom this time of year got right down to business. I snuck out yesterday between showers to capture some of the action.

grevillea
Grevillea. Adore these and wish I’d planted more of them. Only downside is a short blooming season but the lacy foliage is lovely year round.

Variegated rose…anyone know what variety this might be? The roses are just beginning to wake up.
white flowering perennial
Don’t know what this is called either, but love the diminutive white blossoms against the dark green foliage.

I wanted to thank Alicia at Spashionista who nominated me for a Shine On Award. Thank you so much Alicia! If you haven’t checked out Alicia’s blog, she lives in Nashville and is dialed in to the music and cultural scene there. She has fabulous style and a megawatt smile.

Will you be watching the Oscars tonight? I’m a little embarrassed to admit that I’ve seen almost none of the nominated films. I may try to catch some of the red carpet action online. I can hardly wait to see what Lupita Nyong’o will be wearing as well as our favorite “certain age” contingent: Dame Judi Dench, Meryl Streep, June Squibb. I always appreciate the elegance they bring.

She knows her look (narrow column of color with interesting details) and tends to stick to it.

How is your weekend shaping up?

  1. I will be glued to the red carpet show just before I watch the Oscars. I have seen a few of the films but not all of them. I love seeing the women in their jewels and gowns….a fantasy really.
Your lacy garden blooms are so pretty. I love that beautiful rose but don’t know it’s name. I hope that the rain has helped with the drought situation, it looks like your garden has burst into life as a result.

  2. Her style is fabulous…all of the dresses are stunning! I also will watch the red carpet…not really into the films that much. I walked outside yesterday morning and two trees were blooming as if they knew is was March 1. Kind of fun! My backyard is atrocious…needs much help after a colder winter than expected! Your pictures are beautiful.

  3. Beautiful blooms in your garden! Thank you for sharing them. We are beginning to see buds on our trees in Texas. Spring is around the corner. But, if that is true, why is the temperature in the 30s today?

  4. I will be watching the pre-Oscar show to see the fashion, so fun. I missed seeing a couple of the movies. I love the whole diamond-borrowing thing! Lovely garden flowers. The white flower reminds me of a variety of beach rose on the east coast. My patio pansies are just about done so time to find new flora for containers. I ventured out to meet new people in my new CA town last evening. A work in progress..

  5. I’ve watched them all and have opinions coming out of my ears.
I read about that rain – you’re all in thermals, wellies and Parkas, aren’t you?

  6. Dealing with the latest round of snow here in Chicago. Time to hitch up the dog sled team and go buy the bubbly for tonight’s events. Tried a biscotti recipe that will accompany the viewing of the Oscar’s tonight. So, tired of the Polar Vortex!

What a treat to look at the flowers in your post. Someday our snow will melt. Maybe in July.

  7. I think the rose might be Honorine de Brabant, a Bourbon…I will watch the red carpet action but not the Oscars, although I really like Ellen and am glad she’s hosting again. Much better than that tool last year.

    1. If the striped rose is once-blooming, it may be Variegata di Bologna. If it re-blooms, it may be Scentimental.

  8. Isn’t the rain wonderful? The mustard fields are back here in the wine country thanks to the weather.
I love Lupita’s style. She is certainly a gorgeous woman. I haven’t seen any of the nominated movies since I rarely see a movie in a theater anymore. But I am pulling for Lupita and Matthew McConaughey. I used to not think much about Matthew but after getting into “True Detective” I suddenly have a thing for him and think he is such a talented actor. Kinda easy on the eyes, too 😉
Enjoy the rest of your rainy Sunday!

P.S. I made kale Caesar again yesterday and thought about you and Monsieur.

    1. Adrienne: If you have not yet, you must watch “Magic Mike”! The first scene is worth the price of admission.

  9. The white flower at the bottom is a Japanese Anemone. My reference book lists 2 white cultivars; “Alba” is 24″ height, “Honorine Jobert” is 36″.

  10. The dresses are stunning but will never be able to compete with your beautiful flowers in the garden!
We have had an incredibly mild winter with hardly any snow at all. That means my lawn already looks green (usually brown early spring due to the snow) and tulips are coming out which is unusual at the altitude and climate here.
    I love it!

  11. Sigh, those flowers are beautiful. My garden is blooming too. The gardener went on some planting spree and had every corner with flowers some I don’t even know the names! I guess spring is really around the corner 🙂

  12. Beautiful garden! I’m so glad it’s rained. We were prepared to let everything die….I just hope the rain continues but in a soft and intermittent pattern so that no one gets flooded! We’ve got daffodils and tulips coming up. A few of our freesias survived.
I watched the Oscars last night and the only film I’ve seen so far is American Hustle (which was fabulous). I was actually hoping that Christian Bale got the Oscar because his performance was so amazing–but then I haven’t seen any of the other films!!
