Dear Talbot’s…

You know I love you most of the time, but did someone on your team design this jacket while in the throes of a fever dream? Not only is the superfluous set of upper pockets placed exactly where we *don’t* want extra bulk, but of what use are they? Can you imagine how awkward one would look fishing around in there for keys or a ringing cell phone?

Yours truly,
Une femme

  1. Too right, Pseu. And what is up with the blob of crinckled-up kleenex on the lapel? I know it’s cold season and all, but sheesh. Wouldn’t something tonally related to the jacket have been a better idea?

  2. hah…over done and designed of course for a stick person.
what’s a female person of more generous proporations to do when in need of a classic jacket…SEW or have some SEW for them!
    have a wonderful day.

  3. I noticed those pockets as well. What were they thinking? Upper pockets on jackets are just a poor idea all the way around. More clean lines and sophisticated styling, please.

  4. Rubiatonta – I think that’s supposed to be a flower, but yeah.

Miss Janey – don’t know on what planet someone thought this would look good…

Sal – and they’ve been mostly pretty good lately.

  5. Rita – one thing that drives me crazy are non-functional pockets. They just junk up the line.

LPC – maybe, but I look at this and don’t see curves where you’d want them. Those ribcage level pockets make the silhouette look boxy, not curvy. The hip pockets are fine if you want to create curves, just not their little sisters upstairs.

Sher – maybe the extra pockets are a nod to some sort of trend, but it’s just such a bizarre design.

  6. What A Splurge – I can deal with the shirt outside sometimes, but you’re right, it doesn’t work as well with this look.

Erin – I don’t even think this would flatter someone who is thin and narrow, just doesn’t create curves in the right places.

Mindy – that’s a consideration too. Just too much going on here!

  7. LaurieAnn – “More clean lines and sophisticated styling, please.” I heartily second that motion!

enc – this one really jumped off the screen at me. 🙂

Semi Expat – not sure what they were going for here!

Bonjour Madame – yes, and only slightly less useful than *on* the boob pockets… 😉

  8. Is it just me or has anyone else noticed also the very odd and sort of hunched over pose that the model is using. The position also makes the jacket hang really oddly.

  9. OMG! I love this jacket!I almost did not recognize it in this photo!!

I saw it on a lady in store, and then also saw on someone being interviewed by John Stewart wearing it, and it is divine. I dunno if her supermodel like proportions are throwing it off, but it looks MUCH better in person, on shorter, rounder people.

Sometimes, I find that Talbots poorly photographed something that is wonderful. Then I get it on super clearance because no one wants to buy it from the photos! :-)Hopefully that happens with this jacket!

  10. Wow, a real-life sighting? Bianca, are you sure it was THIS jacket and not a sibling, ha?

Because even if she lost a foot I’m with the others who don’t see how those upper pockets could migrate to be where upper pockets usually are.

    This one is something, alright!

  11. Maybe I’m dating myself … yes, surely I’m dating myself … but I’m not attracted to the shirttail hanging out look. It just looks sloppy to me.

Yes, the pocket marathon looks silly.

  12. My boss keeps her phone in a boob pocket and I am always getting random boob calls from her.

Very annoying, unless there is some interesting conversation going on that I can eavesdrop on!

  13. What a shame. It’s such a lovely jacket, otherwise. I’m a little concerned where the buttons on that second set of pockets would hit on a short torso like mine.

  14. ROFL! The color is nice, though.

And yes, the shirt sticking out from the bottom is a look that supposed to suggest a tossed-off, careless/chic kind of vibe, at least how I interpret it.

  15. You are SO right! What do you think about that vaunted redesign? Skirts that looked so graceful in the online Look Book were stiff. IMO their colours are much better, but not the styling.

  16. I’m pleased to hear that there are others who don’t “get” the whole shirttail hanging out thing. It just looks messy to me. Audrey Hepburn would never have worn it!

  17. This is just like a Paule Ka jacket I had in the late 80s (no corsage) but I was very tall and thin. So the double pocket thing can work, but will bulk up anybody. Not for petite women like Pseu or the busty. She’s standing like her thong is caught on something.

  18. Looks like I’m in the minority but I’m quite liking it. Don’t forget, our problem areas are not all in the same region- my waist is good, my butt and short fat legs are not! The shape I’m not too sure about…the pockets I LOVE, functional or not I always love the look of pockets(same with buttons, the more the merrier..you’d never guess I like clean lines!). It gets worse…i like the shirt tails hanging out! Yep, don’t shoot me, I don’t like things too perfect, like them just a tad messed up. No Audrey would’ve never done it, but then I will never look like Audrey.
