The answer is black and denim. What was the question again?

Seriously though, in LA, it’s hard to go wrong with black and denim. I’ve had this sheer silk blouse for some time, and realized after I wore it for a dinner out recently that I hadn’t yet shared it here. It’s from Eileen Fisher (surprise! 😉 ), is gently shaped and the hem dips down a bit longer in back. Works beautifully under a jacket or alone over a camisole. Here’s a similar style currently available.

Stella & Dot bracelet, Sophie Hulme bagThe Sophie Hulme bag is another item I’ve had for a while. It has a removable cross-body strap, but I tend to use it more without the strap as a “going out” clutch.

Belle by Sigerson Morrison shoesI’ve been on the hunt for a pair of low-heeled, semi-dressy shoes for spring/summer, and these are perfect. The wedge adds some visual volume without having most of the foot covered. The weather’s been throwing us curve balls lately, warm/cool/warm/cool, and the evening I wore this outfit was definitely on the warmer side.

Do you have a favorite piece or outfit that accommodates changeable weather?

  1. I have a similar top that I haven’t worn in ages-thanks for reminding me, now I know what to wear tomorrow night!

  2. Great classic combination! I love the bag and shoes. I wonder, though, what this color combo would look like if you reversed the colors, i.e. denim on top and black (or navy) on the bottom. With fair skin, black can be a little harsh right next to the face. I think the reverse would be stunning.

  3. Seriously Eileen Fischer needs to get you on payroll! Every time I visit your blog, I want to run right to the EF site and buy something! Great chic look, adorable shoes, and I love the bracelets … nice pops of gold. Thanks so much for linking up with Fun Fashion Friday! Have a lovely weekend … you’re in SoCal, right? 86 expected in San Jose today!

  4. You look very lovely. I have a question about your NYDJ jeans. I am older than you and was fitted at Nordstrom in a very tight pair that made me uncomfortable. The stylist was very good and insisted they were my size. How do you go about fitting your jeans which always look appropriate and not tight?

    1. carol, depending on the fabric, some of the NYDJ jeans will stretch a bit with wear. If they’re mostly cotton with a little bit of lycra, I find they stretch out. More synthetic, less so. That said, I tend to wear one size smaller in NYDJ jeans than in Eileen Fisher or other brands. But I also find that some cuts/styles fit me better than others (the straight legs and boot cuts tend to be too baggy on the thighs), and that you have to try multiple sizes to get the best fit.

  5. Black and denim is my comfort zone. I probably wear it too often. Love those shoes. Might just have to get them. I just love when you do my scouting for me

  6. I am overwhelmed by the beauty of these shoes, you look fabulous! I just put up a post which I think you would love, and would have liked to attend if you lived nearby-very French.
