What I love this week: 3 easy pieces

I’d ordered a few new things last week, and finally had time yesterday to open packages and try them on. I haven’t yet had a chance to style and shoot them but here’s an easy 3-piece outfit idea using the new pieces and some already in my wardrobe…

An easy 3-piece outfit idea with a linen cardigan, cotton blouse, straight-leg jeans and cork effect slide sandals

(The earrings shown are similar to a pair I already own.)

I first spotted this v-neck blouse when I was looking for pieces to include in my roundup of lightweight tops with sleeves. What wasn’t apparent from the image or description, but was a nice surprise, is that the stripes are gold and silver metallic.

The metallic stripes add an interesting detail, and make it more dress-up-able. The cotton fabric is gossamer light and slightly sheer, but because it’s not fitted I’d be comfortable wearing it without a camisole. (Of course you could always add one.) This blouse will also layer nicely under a lightweight cardigan or jacket without adding bulk.

It’s available in sizes X-Small to XX-Large. The website suggests sizing down but I ordered my regular size (small) and think the fit is fine. If you’re small-busted or have narrow shoulders, you may want to size down.

I’ve been looking for a pair of slim straight leg jeans with a lighter, even wash (not overly distressed). These are the Paige Cindy crop style, and I’m pleased with them. They have a bit of stretch and are quite comfortable. The rise hits me just at the navel, and they’re a true slim-straight leg. (I’d say they run true-to-size.) Because I’m short (5’1″) the cropped length is actually ankle length on me.

There’s also an ankle-length option with a slightly longer inseam. (For those of you who are looking for tall or full-length jeans, I’m working on some options for an upcoming post, stay tuned…)

I purchased this linen-blend cardigan last year, and the weather’s just about warm enough to pull it out and start wearing again. It’s an easy throw-on-and-go piece for cool evenings or air-conditioned interiors. It’s also available in Lavender and Black, sizes XX-Small to 3X.

When I’m wearing longer tops, I find a little bit of heel helps balance the proportions. These slide sandals are available in a bunch of different colors & finishes, but I really liked this cork option. They’re neutral and will go with almost anything, while adding some textural interest. They’re quite comfortable, too. I’d suggest going with your usual shoe size.

  1. Just wanted to drop by and say thank you for all the color advice, and the recommendation for Quince in some of your blog posts. I have placed a first Quince order today for some athletic wear, basic tees, and a blouse. I also recently bought a navy (yeah, boring but better than black) dress for a graduation.
I will take a look at the metallic blouse — this would be very nice for the Easter season when the liturgical colors are white and gold.
I am looking at colors more now for my three sons when I buy for them. Always warmer colors, they are likely spring/fall seasons as well, based on my husband and me. Do guys use color analysis?
I like the cork sandals too. Working on a little spring/summer refresh!

  2. I’m curious what you think about the linen blend sweater. I love the way it looks online but so many reviews said it sheds like crazy and somebody said the bottom was banded and too fitted. Please let us know your thoughts when you try it out! It seems like it would be right up my alley.

    1. Hi Jartz, I purchased this sweater last year and never noticed shedding or that the banded bottom was too small. (That said, I usually wear it open, or only button the top two buttons.) I’ve washed it in a lingerie bag on the gentle cycle and line dried without any problems.
