How to wear white jeans for fall

A fall wardrobe capsule with white jeans.

White (and off-white) jeans are now a year-round option. I love pairing them with camel and brown tones for fall. Here, I’ve put together a couple of mini-capsules to show how easy it is to create fall outfits with white jeans.

This post is sponsored by Nordstrom. All ideas and opinions are my own.

White and off-white jeans can look a bit more polished than blue, and brighten up a fall outfit. This season I’d opt for straight leg or bootcut styles for a modern look. When it comes to fit and sizing, my personal preference for white or light colored jeans is to err on the side of “relaxed” rather than snug.

If your palette is cool, white jeans will look great with just about any cool color. Try shades of blue, lavender, pink, purple, teal this fall. Or for an elegant tonal look, try white with various shades of gray.

How I styled my white jeans for fall…

These AG Ex-Boyfriend jeans are one of my favorite denim styles. They come with a finished hem, but I chopped mine off to shorten slightly (and because I still love a raw hem). The color is a soft white, bordering on ivory. I’m wearing size 27 in the jeans, and XS in the top.

I like to mix levels of refinement within an outfit, like pairing jeans and loafers or oxfords. These patent leather loafers look great with so many outfits, and are very comfortable.

I’ve been doing a lot of my fall shopping at Nordstrom this year. They carry a great selection from my go-to brands like Vince, rag & bone, AG, Eileen Fisher and FRAME. Shipping and returns are free, and I love having the option to order online and pick up from my local store when I need something quickly.

  1. In Provence, in the south of France, I saw many versions of the outfit you are wearing. It looks great! In Paris I saw no white or ivory jeans and very little dark denim. Most were wearing a medium blue jean or washed out black (grey). They were not skinny but skimmed the leg creating a nice silhouette. Women in their 60-70’s were wearing these jeans too. They looked wonderful and comfortable in their white sneakers. I don’t recall seeing that in the past.

  2. I love your blog! Have you done a post in the past on how to fray the legs on your jeans once you cut them.? Thank you.

    1. Thanks, Rita! I haven’t, but I don’t do anything special other than washing them after cutting and then trimming the longer threads.

  3. Talbots has a great ivory corduroy jean that would be ideal for those of us in colder areas of the country.
I bought two pairs in different colors- navy and a gold when they had their sale a couple of weeks ago.
Wish that plaid coat was available in my size! Love the red plaid!
Thanks for all of your tips!

  4. Hello Susan: Thank you for all the lovely posts. I was worried this week when I did not see you posting. I hope everything is OK.

I was inspired by you to also get a color analysis and appreciate now how life changing it really is. Thank you for showing the cool palette in this post. I am loving those loafers.

Your posts are always inspiring and tasteful.

    1. Hi Mary, thanks so much! My tech people were doing some “back-end” work on the blog and had asked me to hold off adding new posts for a few days, but (for the moment) I’m back to regular posting. I’m so glad you’re enjoying the results of your color analysis!

  5. Love white jeans. Always look so fresh. Had to have the beautiful blue/pink plaid Sam Edelman teddy coat. My colors! Arrived today – a cozy delight. Thanks for the tip.
