Out and about in Milan and Piedmont, Italy

We’ve had a pretty full schedule since our arrival in Italy a few days ago. Our time in Milan was too short, and we’ve bookmarked this city for another visit in the future.

For those who have asked, we were on the move almost the entire time, and I wasn’t able to spend some leisurely time at a cafe to snap street styles. 🙁 I will do my best to carve out some time in future cities on our itinerary. (Don’t worry, this is a top priority in Paris! 😉 )

My Italy travel outfits (so far)…

Piedmont 1: scarf | jacket | sweater (navy) | jeans (similar) | sneakers

I’m SO glad I packed this jacket as one of my wild cards! I’ve worn it almost every day here. The weather is mild during the day, but can get quite cool nights and mornings (especially out here in the countryside).

I’ve worn each of the sweaters at least once, and each of the pants. (I’ll definitely be repeating some combos, so will get more photos to share.)

The internet where we’re staying gets hung up periodically, so rather than trying to upload more photos, here are two of my latest Instagram posts, which should give you a little taste of what we’ve been up to.

(Just click the small arrow at the right side to scroll through the “slideshow.” There are a few videos in the mix, recommend watching with sound on.)

Today we’re off to explore some nearby villages and a medieval castle, and tomorrow, a truffle hunt!

  1. Love all your outfits , looks like your travel wardrobe is working out well .
Enjoying all your pictures on Instagram giving us a taste of travelling with you . Some very interesting places you’re visiting . Have fun today.

    1. Uniqlo’s website gives you actual garment measurements to help you decide. I wish they all did. Much better than relying on descriptions like “fitted” or “relaxed”. I am also between sizes. At 5’2″ and about 125 lbs, I have a M and a L. The M fits and looks better. The L gives me extra room to layer underneath. I always pack one of these. They don’t take up much space, they weigh nothing, and they are surprisingly warm.

      1. I agree that it runs small. I’m 5’7″, 134 lbs., 32 F bra size, and the Medium closes but gaps slightly at the bust, which I find annoyingly sloppy. The Large allows me to wear a wool sweater comfortably underneath, and I prefer the ease and neatness. It’s not the size that matters, it’s the fit!

Quick question, Susan: what color is your jacket?

  2. Love Milan, my favorite Italian city and home of my ancestors. You look great and very pulled together. Going to Rome in November and then Milan to visit the family.

  3. Hi Susan, love traveling vicariously through you ! Have been hesitant to travel abroad these days but you make it sound and look good !
Your white jacket … is that from the current season color palette ? They offer a “Natural” but it looks a little darker than yours.

    1. Hi Janice, thanks! This jacket is from a prior season, so the color choices now may be slightly different.

  4. More love for the Uniqlo puffer! Two years ago I bought one in a warm beige whilst enroute Toronto to Seattle. It turned into a wardrobe workhorse, so this summer I picked up the off-white colour. My colouring (60 yo redhead) is similar to yours, Susan. I LOVE your palette. Can’t wait to travel abroad once again. Not feeling brave enough yet.

  5. Love your pictures! Always get good inspiration from you. We leave for Paris next week. I’ve got my Uniqlo beige puffer all set to wear on it’s own or under my rain slicker. Safe travels.

  6. Isn’t it wonderful to be traveling again?
I’m going to Boston next week and very excited. I know Milan is far more exciting, but for that I have your blog, for now!
Keep your observations and stories coming, please!
    Enjoy a passagiatta for me!

  7. You look comfortable and stylish. I love your 3/4 black coat and your white puffer. We returned from Paris a couple weeks ago. Love that city!

  8. Looks like a great trip! We plan to visit Milan and the Piedmont area next year. Do you have any hotel or dining suggestions?

    1. Yes, I’m going to be recapping some of our favorite accommodations, restaurants and activities. Look for more posts in the coming weeks.
