just like that

Cashmere sweater, NYDJ denim, Givenchy bag, Gerard Darel scarf, leather wrap bracelets

Almost as if someone flipped a switch, Autumn arrived in LA. We awoke on Saturday to the sound of rain which soon cleared, and the rest of the weekend we enjoyed the kind of cool-ish, crisp, clear weather that makes a sweater-boot-and-scarf-loving gal almost giddy.

Sweater: Eileen Fisher, several years old, similar shape
Earrings: Argento Vivo, similar
Scarf: Gerard Darel, not available online, similar weight/shape
Bag: Givenchy
Bracelets: Stella & Dot, similar and Tory Burch
Jeans: NYDJ
Booties: Belle by Sigerson Morrison, similar style

Those charms you see on the bag are my lucky “Rooster” charms from the Chinese zodiac. I’m a Rooster, which means I partner well with Ox and Snake. There’s a third one on there too which looks like it might be a Dragon. I purchased the charms in Hong Kong, and have forgotten most of the quick explanation that was given to me by the Sales Associate. If anyone is knowledgeable about Chinese zodiac signs, please feel free to chime in. 🙂 They’re lovely hand-painted porcelain, and I’ll try to get a better closeup shot soon. The bit of orange/green/yellow you see peeking out from behind the bag is what remains of a braided yarn bracelet that a Buddhist monk placed on my wrist as part of a blessing when we visited the Big Buddha in Phuket. (More on this in a later post.)

I’m finding these dark grey denim jeans to be so versatile, and have been wearing them multiple times per week. They dress up with a pair of heels or down, as shown here.

Remember "Beatle boots"? These remind me of those.

Remember “Beatle boots”? These remind me of the pair I had during the height of Beatlemania.

What season is your favorite to dress for?

I like to dress for winter – I’m one of those oddballs who doesn’t get cold, so I can wear a big hunk of sweater and run the streets in the snow. Celebrate one’s differences, right?

Autumn also came to South Texas! Yes! I love this whole look…the scarf looks great with your hair…and you made my day with the Beatlemania boots…I remember how taken I was with them as a teen. My favorite clothes are cold weather clothes…i hope I get to wear a lot of them this year.

I’m a fall girl..through and through. Love burgundies and golds and oranges…and not just on the trees. I particularly love it when it’s cool enough, like now, to wear my tweed blazer as outerwear. Bought a new white silky turtleneck from Vince on-line last week and love it under my jacket with a big scarf. Parts of Canada have already have snow…and although I love winter…I’m not ready for it yet.

This makes me miss autumn… Or the nice part of autumn (we’re expecting winter to hit us any moment…) The bracelets are a nice touch, a bit rock and roll.

Florida too! Someone opened the fridge door here : > Hooray, now it’s time for booties (yours are gorgeous) and a wee wrap. xo

I am a rooster too (same birth year even). I can tell you just a bit–roosters are known for loving to dress beautifully, and to love doing it! (A colleague of mine who is into Chinese zodiac reminds me of this often, and with admiration.)

Great outfit–and I have to say that I love dressing for cool weather too. Don’t get enough of it in Tucson always, but it is nice and chilly this morning–upper 40s.

Glad to hear you have some autumn! And please make it sunny and warm for our visit at Christmas (as we will be needing respite from the Pacific Coastal rain!).

I thought at first glance that this was the scarf you purchased from the Eileen Fisher opening – will we see that one soon?

    Tks for your blog,

Cute outfit. The season has abruptly changed over here, too. I’m envious of how gracefully you pose. It may seem fundamental but I’m carefully studying female body positions and movements; you have femininity conquered.

I love autumn dressing, until the Fall rains begins, at which point my lifestyle demands some complicated layering to stay dry and mud-free — it can get tiresome! You wear Autumn dressing well!

My first reaction was identical to Pam@over50feeling40– that scarf is stunning with your hair. The doubling of the pale, silky, wheat-like shimmer. I think the color gurus are right who say that if you repeat your hair color somewhere in your outfit, you can’t go wrong. There’s a harmony going on.

Love dressing for fall too. Have to watch not to introduce too much texture into my layering though, since a lot of texture seems to overwhelm me, rats!

Sharing in your giddiness up here in Santa Barbara. Had to put a blanket on the bed last night. How long will this lovely boot/sweater weather last, I wonder?

The cooler weather was quite nice this weekend in San Diego as well .. but ugh, we are in for Santa Ana weather mid week .. 80+ degrees!
