Friday miscellany: last-minute gift ideas & more

Last-minute gift idea: Brian + MW virtual makeup lesson. Details at une femme d'un certain age.

If you’re still looking for last-minute gift ideas, here are some suggestions that won’t require expedited shipping.

A personal makeup lesson

My friend Brian is a professional makeup artist who has worked with celebrities and loves to teach his techniques for using makeup to enhance natural beauty. From every day to evening and special occasion looks, he’ll teach you how to be your own makeup artist.

He’s now teaching via Zoom, so anyone can experience a Virtual Makeover at home! You can also purchase a gift card to give a personalized makeup lesson. The gift card recipient (individual or group) can schedule with Brian at their convenience.

This set includes Firming Neck & Throat Creme, Re-Creation Lip Treatment, and Illuminate & Contour Eye Treatment. (All products are paraben-free and cruelty-free.)

And there’s a special offer for my readers! Use code virtualbeauty for 10% off on all products and makeovers!

  1. I’d like to add another sale option. Johnny Was is offering scarves, Buy one, Get One on Us (BOGOF). It has an amazing collection of silk scarves in a couple of sizes, price points and color ranges and pretty reasonably priced. I’m not a “Paid Spokesperson” and haven’t received any gifts.

On another topic and not to be a ‘Debbie Downer” during this odd holiday season there are more people in need that perhaps ever before. I do hope as you are doing your shopping you’re are also thinking of how to contribute to those around us. Just a few dollars can make an incredible difference.

Please have a holiday filled with peace.

  2. Are you aware that if you decide to unsubscribe to MSFB, you must specifically request a refund or you will receive the next box?

    1. I had a problem with a recent box and left a review detailing the problem. They never responded to me publicly or privately, which led me to cancel my subscription. They asked for feedback on why I was canceling, but when I gave it they never responded. And I found that they had removed my review from their site. For the most part the boxes are lovely, but I really find their customer service to be lacking.

  3. A make up lesson. What a great idea! I like the idea of giving a spa day as a gift too. One of my favorite ways of giving a gift is to fill a basket with 12 small gifts and one special gift. Give it 12 days before Christmas and tell them to open one a day unto Christmas and save the special one for Christmas Day. My MIL just absolutely loved this gift. Just scarves, jewelry. Perfume, bed and bath, things you can pick up during the year. Doesn’t have to be expensive. And that special one on Christmas. My idea of the 12 days of Christmas.

    1. Eve it is a great idea, right? A makeup lesson. And… we’re all quite stuck at home so anyone from anywhere can have a Private or Group Makeup Party with me through Zoom. Some laughs, some makeup, and tips and tricks! Happy Holidays!

  4. We have followed a family rule for some years now, no gifts for adults, just for nieces and nephews, “kids”. IF you feel you *must* give a gift then it has to be homemade (food, wine, etc.) It makes for a low-key, no stress holiday and this year makes more sense than ever. We also adopt a family (thru employer) and donate to various charities, with all donations matched 2 for 1 by my employer, which is amazingly generous.

  5. I have to say though your new outfits are nice and subject to whomever thinks they are correct
You look wonderful in New colors but equally super in your black. I think black is very high end and classy. No matter the day
Your longer hair is cute too. Just my opinion.
And don’t sell yourself short. You might be the best judge of your color and style.
