splurge vs. save: leopard bags

Is there any doubt that leopard print has become a classic? Or that it adds oomph to a look and works with just about any other color? I love my leopard print, but usually keep it to accessories and one piece per outfit. If leopard shoes aren’t your thing, what about a leopard bag? The Longchamp bag Alexa has above is gorgeous, but Talbot’s also has a nice version at a VERY nice price.

What do you think? Would you carry a leopard bag?

  1. Le sigh. I’ve tried, but I just can’t pull the trigger on animal print. Even in small doses, I just can’t do it. I like bright accessories, so I have a pair of red suede heels and some very bright gloves/scarves, but I always end up backing away from the animal prints.

  2. I was too busy looking at that camel and black coat to notice the bag at first. I’m definitely NOT a leopard bag person. Sweater or scarf…yes…bag… nope. But I should never say never any more after claiming I would never wear drawstring pants and then buying and loving a pair last summer.

  3. Absolutely! In addition to the brio of the print, the wider-at-top design of the Longchamp bag is eye-catching and adorable.

  4. I am a huge fan of leopard prints! You just have to find the right balance and even more, the right styling. Then animal prints are really classy and don’t look cheap. Currently I have an eye on this cute little Zara bag which is on sale: http://bit.ly/1AbbswA

  5. I own a LeSportSac leopard shopper. If the urge strikes me I get that out.

I’d be much more likely to have leopard shoes or a belt.

  6. I would for sure carry a leopard bag, as long as it was the only leopard accessory on my body. I really like the bags, but have never purchased this type of piece. Although, I think about your leopard booties are the time and I probably would do that before the purse. But, I love one accessory in leopard…it is a classic.

  7. That’s a lovely bag, though I’m not sure I’d carry it, being an 80’s kiddo, I wore leopard print to death back in the day, so aside from flats, I stay away from it now, I had trousers, a dress, a shirt, a coat, a bag and a jumper! ( though never at once) Every man I ever dated loathed it, and thought it was so garish!

    1. My hubs doesn’t like in clothing (probably that Mrs. Robinson association), but does in small doses like scarves & shoes.

  8. I absolutely would go for a leopard bag!! I love leopard, but cannot wear it in my clothing or shoes because it makes me look like I have an exotic disease :-). My Longchamp nylon bags are my favorites now that I’m older because they are lightweight and don’t kill my shoulders and back like my leather bags do. The Longchamp bag above is gorgeous, and I would jump to buy one if they used this same look on the nylon bag. Leopard and black – marvelous!!

  9. Love leopard print (and that coat)! Have a fun fuzzy one from several years ago that I haven’t taken out since I associate it with cold, snowy winters that are just not happening here. I do enjoy wearing pony hair pumps in a leopard print, and a silk scarf (like you, only wear one item at a time). One day I was going to grab the scarf but remembered the snake skin print bag I’m using and said a definite “non non.”

  10. Leopard is my signature. I wear some form of it most days but in small doses. I’ve been a fashion designer for nearly 30 years and have learned that there is no middle ground with leopard prints. You either like them or you don’t.

  11. Love both those bags. I tend to go more neutral with bags though, because I’m not likely to take time to change out a bag in the morning when I’m rushing out out the door! That said, my very favorite shoes are leopard Sperry loafers I’ve had for 5+ years.

  12. I have to confess to liking my animal prints in black and white. I do think the traditional leopard print is incredibly elegant and timeless though, and a bag is the perfect way to bring this print into ones wardrobe. I do have a gorgeous snow leopard print handbag and it definitely brings a little “Je ne sais quoi” to an outfit:) I’m in!

  13. Are you kidding me? I’m obsessed! I have 3 different leopard print coats (okay, two aren’t so different) and I get complimented every time I wear them. Obviously everything else stays very simple and neutral, and only ever one piece at a time. I say, yes, yes, YES!!

  14. I bought a leopard print bag a couple of years ago. I think it’s a great looking bag but I hardly ever use it. It just doesn’t seem to fit my daily style somehow.

  15. I’m not comfortable in animal prints for myself but I think they look great on other people in small doses. MZ Wallace has 2 leopard print bags on sale on their site today for less than $200. I love their bags – light weight, no huge logos, they last forever . . .

  16. Love leopard print… I have 4 pairs of shoes– kitten heels, wedge style, and flats. I love them all! I also have a blouse and a new clutch. I consider them wonderful neutrals and wear them often (of course, separately)! In fact, I wore the blouse to lunch at the Jules Verne restaurant in the Eiffel Tower in Sept for my husband’s 60th birthday. Donna

  17. Yes Oh Yes to leopard print bag – thanks to your post I am reminded that I have such a bag, which I have not used for a while and really ought to – it is from River Island a few years ago so not expensive but it’s very jolly and I always get lots of compliments on it. Off now to seek it out from the depths of the cupboard.

  18. Bonne année 2015! No, I don’t think I could wear or carry a catskin print. I have a bag I use to tote my laptop that is almost the same shape as the pricy Longchamp one, from Reisenthel, however it is red and black fabric. It looks sharp for working at conferences.

As for your (not) texting and driving theme, here is a piece about texting and walking: http://www.motherjones.com/environment/2014/12/texting-walking-injuries-deaths I saw a guy doing this crossing a busy, and extremely icy street yesterday; I was on the bus; the driver had to slam on the brakes. The bus driver said he encounters that all the time, and also looks down to see the number of people texting and driving.

    1. lagatta, yes on the texting and walking! I’ve seen pedestrians do so many stupid things while focused on their phones. When we were in Hong Kong, there were signs and announcements on the PA reminding people “look up, don’t just look at your phone.” 🙂

  19. I love leopard but indeed, one item at a time. Or perhaps a small belt with a small scarf. I would love a leopard bag, but I am too much in love with the one Elle of the blog My daily Costume has bought in a thrift shop. It is in the shape of a hat box and I love it to death. Of course I cannot find it anywhere. Nothing else has been able to outdo this one.

  20. Love a dose of leopard either in a bag, a scarf or a shoe. I find I am too lazy to switch my bags out so I just purchased a new black one from Cole Haan and will probably put my leopard on Ebay!!
