So I’ve given up on the lightweight jackets…for now. The Theory jacket I tried last week, after some deliberation, has gone back. There was nothing inherently wrong with it, but it ultimately just didn’t feel right and I think the proportions were slightly off for me. Or maybe I’m just moving away from tailored looks; my style mood now is leaning toward softer pieces, and long layers with movement. This long cardigan hits that sweet spot between drama and practicality. Though I’ve styled casually here, it’s polished enough to go to the office. The linen gives it a nice bit of drape and swing, and I love that the pockets are just a little bit slouchy.
I prefer it worn open, but it can also be buttoned. I’ve been wearing the heck out of both this scarf and bracelet lately.
Do you find you tend to wear things in cycles, favoring certain pieces for a period of time, then moving on to others?

Oh yes! The colors here are so beautiful on you. This outfit looks not only comfortable to wear, but more like a real person could wear and use the heck out of. Sometimes the jacket is too dressy/fussy, and IMO, sometimes not too flattering. This is very feminine and easy, but dressed up enough to take you to more than one or two functions! Lots of wear out of pieces has become very important. Invest in good quality, buy truly useable styles, and wear, wear, wear it! I love these colors!!

I •do• admire you in your J Crew Regent blazer, but also in this look. For myself, I only wear outerwear jackets, keeping one per season in case I have the occasional meeting or event that needs it.
Duchesse, thank you. I had such high hopes for the spring/summer versions of the Regent, but sadly so far they’ve all been very heavy and stiff.
I was unclear- I keep one “indooor” jacket per season… should have coffee before commenting.
I like the proportions and wear this type of thing a lot…but you have to go with what you feel confident in or else it will sit in the closet. This is a great casual style…I really like it on you and the way you styled it, Susan.

I love your outfit, which looks comfortable as well as very stylish. My problem with wearing this is that the cardigan would probably touch the ground as I’m only 5′ and a teeny bit!
In answer to your question: although I don’t have a huge wardrobe of clothes, I put away everything that I’m unlikely to wear during the current season. I love it when I’m sorting out clothes for a new season and find some of my favourite items that I’ve been unable to wear for a while. By this stage I’m often ready to move on from many of the clothes I’ve been wearing too.

Yes, I do seem to go through cycles when I’m happy to draw from almost a capsule wardrobe.
Funnily enough, though, I’ve been moving into blazers lately (posted an OOTD with one today). They actually seem most wearable here in Spring and I like the easy polish they lend.

Beautiful. These outfits are definitely made to move. You would never consider a video clip, I suppose? Even so, your photos still do these pieces justice. Yes, I do move in cycles in my dress as well, but I’m glad I don’t throw everything else away during those times I’m convinced I’m only going to wear black.

This gentle palette suits you beautifully! I do wear things (e.g. silhouettes) in cycles, but tend to cycle back again rather than move forward. Makes it hard to get rid of anything!

I’m lately moving for jackets (after so many years of leather jackets and cardigans-long and with a twist,like DK cosy or something)with distressed or white jeans and scarves,I like them over 30years,
But,it changes depending on mood and inspiration 🙂

I love a longer sweater. It instantly adds drama (is it because we do not see it often?). I have a long linen blend one with leather ties and I love it. If only I had appropriate weather to wear it in here in this warm Nor Cal climate. My scarves have also been sadly neglected. Ho hum. This looks great!
