More 60’s hair…

Mom & Dad actioning hairstyles of the mid 1960’s

My sister has been visiting this weekend and we’ve been going back through old family photos and papers. Yesterday she did a marathon scanning session, so lots more fun Mid-Century Mania to share in upcoming posts.  But for now we’re finishing up our visit, so will post more later.

  1. LuxeBytes – yeah, it was redwood paneling. And the kitchen cabinets in that house were blond knotty pine! Remember those??

re: Drapers – so are you just counting down the days until Season 4???

  2. Ha ha. I have several photos of myself with almost that exact same hair do–different color though. As we moved through the mid-60s the hairdo got poofier and taller.

    Thanks for sharing.

  3. That’s such a lovely photo. Your parents look very jolly and stylish – and I like the panelling. I went through a bit of a sixties phase when I was a student, and no I won’t be publishing any photos!

  4. Great photo. Your lovely mother didn’t seem to get into the huge bouffant look. I could say that my mother’s hair was taller than your mother’s hair, but what would that accomplish?

    What a fabulous lamp!!!

  5. Seeing one’s parents, young and vital, is always such a bittersweet experience for me. Their vitality, their struggles (not shown to the camera), how much a part of their times they were- it’s all there. Looking forward to seeing more.

  6. Hah! That dark paneling! We had that in our house, too. In fact, it was still there when my mother sold it two years ago. How scary is that?

The Drapers have paneling in their tv room; I remember seeing it in the background when JFK was shot.

(Don’t you love how I drop their names like they’re real people and I know them?)

  7. Your parents look nice together. And I like the dark paneling. The sofa ( the part I can see of it ), seems quite modern. This picture does not look “old” at all. I´m not feeling ready at all to look at old family pictures. As I mentioned, I threw lots of them away, as I did not even know the people pictured. This operation might surprise most people, but I needed to do it.

  8. LPC – we had a nice visit, thanks! And if my son hadn’t been so clipper-phobic, I probably would have buzzed him for the summer.

Hostess – the panelling in that house, and the exposed beams were all natural redwood. It really was quite lovely.

Ms Maven – I remember even into the early 70’s, some of my friends were still working the poofed up flip.

That’s Not My Age – thanks! I’m gearing up for the next season of Mad Men, which means I’ll be obsessed with 60’s style for the next few weeks. Aww, c’mon, I’ll bet those pics weren’t that bad…
    😉

  9. Tabitha – yes, I wish we’d kept some of those lamps and decorative pieces!

Who you callin housewife – LOL! What’s that saying, “the higher the hair, the closer to heaven.” No, she did more of the Jackie Kennedy bouff, never went the full beehive.

metscan – the furniture in that house actually was quite modern for the time. I did inherit some of my mother’s aesthetics, for clean lines and simplicity. I was surprised to see this picture, as they didn’t often show affection to each other. They divorced a few years after this was taken.

Duchesse – “bittersweet” describes it perfectly.
